    Elizabeth and John Edwards

I've watched Elizabeth Edwards go through this painful book tour now for what seems like a couple of weeks. It perplexes me. What is she trying to do? The pain seems permanently etched on her face. What has John been up to during all of this? He continues to be invisible while she hobbles from show to show to tell her story -- cancer, a cheating spouse and a dead child.

She isn't trying to resurrect John Edwards. It is hard to imagine what John Edwards could ever do again in politics. He demonstrated that he was willing to jeopardize his party's most important election in decades. Folks can think what they will about cheating, but the man should be dead in politics. So what is he going to do? Consult? Who would take advice from such a fool? He should be toxic waste... is he? Maybe he could practice law in some small good ol' boys town where his behavior is business as usual. It is hard to imagine him out to pasture forever, but it's nice to dream.

She's publicly flogging him in a way that's as embarrassing to her as it is to him. I hope this is the last we hear of the Edwards', but I doubt it. My prediction...in a few years his career in 'poverty relief' will hit it's stride and he'll step up as the superficial national czar on the topic. Assuming her health allows, Elizabeth may run for the NC Senate seat at in 2010 and her losing campaign will be a spectacle.

I feel for Elizabeth. Whether she has greater ambitions or genuinely feels a need to tell her story, she just doesn't seem to have derived much shareable wisdom from her personal tragedies. Her perspective seems a little hackneyed, which wouldn't be such a problem if she hadn't written a book.

I was just thinking, this is a book that likely was best not written. I understand John Edwards is practically house bound; a wreck. Is the child his?
When a true genius appears, you can know him by this sign: that all the dunces are in a confederacy against him.

No doubt it's his. I've noticed that whenever they refer to Ms. Edwards, they say she has "terminal" cancer. What does that mean? That they have only given her so long to live? Is her prognosis that grave?
          Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

I think I read that she has Stage 4 breat cancer with multiple recurrences and I believe with metastases to bone. I think statistically that means she has an average of just a year or less to live.

She's just busy burying her husband before they bury her.

Edwards falls into the group of folks who on the outside play the role of someone and on the inside has some serious flaws.

He is like the insurance salesman who lets you know he is on the high council before he goes into telling you how important it is to deal with an honest insurance salesman.

Note: I am just familiar with my own religion. I am sure other religions have the same situation. The insurance salesman who tells you he attends Mass every week, etc.

This is really a tragedy, much of it self-inflicted. Until recently, the Edwards family had it all--wealth, good looks, a meteoric rise in power and influence. Now Edwards' career is finished; all he can do is watch his dying wife talk about all the pain he caused her.

This is why I thought YOhio's crack about her political career was tasteless.

This is very sad. It is interesting how people choose to die, what they focus on as the end nears. I can only hope that circumstances in my life allow me to be at peace.

I can't help but think it was built on a fascade. I don't think he should have felt the guilt, but perhaps he did over all that money he got from sueing people. He deluded himself into thinking he was doing all for the little guy. He couldn't give the money back because he liked his lifestyle. So, he became this great advocate for the little guy.

I admire people who all their life fight for the little guy. The guys who work for legal aid for little pay all their life. The teacher who could have made tons teaching and lecturing, but spent their time teaching. These stories are few and far between and I am certainly not one of them.

However, folks like the Kennedy's and Edwards and Kerry, et. al. who make it big and then absolve their guilt by spending my money, I don't respect them or their positions much. I don't want to be part of soothing their pain.

I feel bad for his wife. No compassion for him.

I agree. Once you get very, very sick or are near death I think you should be allowed to say anything and not be held accountable. Unless of course you are a leader of the LDS church.
