Save it for the "What is wrong with Washington?" thread.

I just went in October. Had a great time. There were a lot of homeless people. Didn't see any needles or feces at the places we walked. The only issue was some drunk/high lady following us telling us how beautiful our oldest son was. She was pretty harmless though.

It may be time to rethink that trip planned for San Francisco.

An NBC Bay Area Investigation reveals a dangerous concoction of drug needles, garbage, and feces lining the streets of downtown San Francisco. The Investigative Unit surveyed more than 150 blocks, including some of the city’s top tourist destinations, and discovered conditions that are now being compared to some of the worst slums in the world.

Rick Santorum is writing about all Americans, my point (which you highlighted) referred to Americans in supervisory positions (the closest analog I could provide for military officers). I'd guess substantially more than 30% of supervisors have bachelor's degrees, but I've already grown tired of the discussion so I won't bother to confirm or refute my guess.

No argument; as noted, the guy was remarkably stupid.

Although I have great respect for the military and acknowledge the stupidity of everyone in your sample size, the rebuttal evidence isn't all that compelling. For example, the pie charts show that 93% of enlisted personnel have either a high school diploma or some college education, compared with only 59% of the general population. But the difference between the education levels of enlisted personnel and adults within the general population is actually pretty minimal--the general population chart apparently includes children under the age of 18, very few of whom (the shock!) have neither a high school diploma or any college education. I'd also expect that the percentage of American workers in supervisory positions with bachelor's degrees would be similar to that of military officers, or would at least be far greater than 30%.

Maybe you would believe Rick Santorum:
According to census data, 209.3 million people in the United States are 25 years old or older, and 66.9 million have a bachelor’s degree or higher (such as a master’s, professional or doctoral degree). That means about 68 percent of them do not have a bachelor’s degree. If we include people who have an academic associate degree -- about 11.7 million people -- the percentage of people without a degree declines slightly, to 62 percent.

The U.S. Labor Department's Bureau of Labor Statistics looked at the same question in a 2014 longitudinal study that followed young people to age 27. It found that by that age, 72 percent of respondents did not have bachelor's degrees.
