We have a neighbor who kept bouncing her kids around different tiny private schools in the area. One of them operated out of a strip mall. Some of them were in private homes. They all promised to bring God back into the classroom and integrate LDS scriptures and teachings into the curriculum. They were all essentially glorified home schools.Originally posted by The_Douger View PostYou should start a charter school focusing on that.
Never could figure out why she was worried about public schools in Provo, UT being anti-religion."There is no creature more arrogant than a self-righteous libertarian on the web, am I right? Those folks are just intolerable."

Stepped into a local charter school for a youth basketball game recently. The walls were full of paintings of founding fathers, pictures of Constitution, Declaration of Ind, slogans and catch phrases focusing on patriotism. I don't know why, but it just felt really creepy.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostWe have a neighbor who kept bouncing her kids around different tiny private schools in the area. Maybe it was a good thing that school voucher thing didn't pass in Utah.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostWe have a neighbor who kept bouncing her kids around different tiny private schools in the area. I think for most people it was the prospect of taking a big chunk out of education funding when we are already dead last in per-pupil funding. The manner in which the original bill passed was unethical also and there was some backlash from that.Originally posted by Uncle Ted View PostMaybe it was a good thing that school voucher thing didn't pass in Utah.
So after being slapped in the face by the public vote overturning the bill, the legislature responded by changing the rules for citizen's initiatives making it almost impossible to ever overturn a bill in the future. Charter schools drive me nuts. My wife used to teach traditional school, and she would always laugh when someone came by the house with their new charter and new ideas as if none of that had ever been thought of before.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostWe have a neighbor who kept bouncing her kids around different tiny private schools in the area. Ultimately they're still responsible to teach the same curriculum as any normal school and have the kids show competency in said curriculum. A couple women in our neighborhood send their kids to a crappy charter school closeby, and the rest of our ward just rolls their eyes at them. Sorry, but kids don't need to be taught the gospel at school. That is our responsibility to take care of in our home. They should probably be taught, well, things relating to school. Will donate kidney for B12 membership.

It really is. The public schools are already run on bare bones budgets here. Taking more away from that to pump it in to private schools wouldn't be a good thing here.Originally posted by Uncle Ted View PostMaybe it was a good thing that school voucher thing didn't pass in Utah. Will donate kidney for B12 membership.

And that's why I want to kick every single one of those asses in the legislature in the crotch. Do different districts have different policies with this type of thing? Seems absolutely ridiculous. I had a shaved head, shoulder length hair, and amulletneckwarmer through my middle school and high school career. A lot of people had crazy colored hair. Does that not fly anymore?
