    Underregulated Caffeine Industry

Inside the Overstimulated, Underregulated Caffeine Industry

The scale of this industry is as eye-opening as a NoDoz. Americans plow through more than 15 million pounds of powdered caffeine annually—enough to fill a freight train 2 miles long, all 270 cars loaded to the brim.

    That was really interesting. Thanks.

    Loved the graphic.

Caffeine is good for endurance, you just need to take a lot of it to reach the potential benefits. 5 GU gels with 100mg would be what it would take. They need to put more caffeine in those things.

For my race on Sunday, I downed a full pack of powerbar cola blasts, one mocha clif gel, and three espresso GUs for a total of 245 mg of caffeine. I had another clif gel ready and I lost a GU at the start, so it could have been as high as 335 mg. This after going completely caffeine free for a month.
Awesomeness now has a name. Let me introduce myself.

It said you may need as much as 500 mg to get the full benefits. And you probably didn't do this all at once either.

Of course you have the diuretic effects that result as well that you have to balance.

It is amazing how much it has proliferated. It really is a miracle drug. Like statins.

I don't know if it's a placebo effect or not but I swear by this level of dosage. Also, the literature indicates that you can take it over time (including during) exercise and get the same effect.
