Dang. He is probably going to lose his front row seat at general conference.

I wonder how many times he has driven drunk.

Isn't there an estimate that the average drunk driver drives under the influence at least 50 times or so for ever time they get caught?

CNN mentioned this story this morning and said, "...and his is a mormon." Thank you CNN for breaking stereotypes about mormons.

I wonder if non mormons who follow BYU sports are now expecting him to get kicked out of the church.

His next re-election bid is 2016, given how he keeps a low profile and is rarely in the news much I think he will be OK. If he were in Simpson's district as a Rep, then I would think he is toast. Which is funny because Simpson while not having any DUI's that I know of is a definite Jack. But since he is a Senator and it is a statewide election and there are 4 years until he runs again I think he will be OK if he so chooses.

I like Crapo. He is my favorite politician that I deal with. He is a staunch fiscal conservative but yet pragmatic. I think if there were more like him our government would be much better off.

I think if I had to deal with President Obama and the House Republicans on fiscal issues I might adopt Brother Joseph's interpretation of section 89 as well! Somebody give the brotha a bone!

Is it true he is currently a bishop? Ouch.

We sure don't need less pragmatists in the senate of any political stripe. It sounds like state couldn't do a ton better.

I know they made him a bishop at the ripe old age of 31. I don't think he is currently one

This holiday season is not awesome for Idaho Senator Mike Crapo, a Republican member of the "Gang of Eight" and a Mormon bishop, after police caught him driving drunk in Virginia. This is what happens when you slug down too many egg nogs, hop in your car, run a red light in front of a police cruiser at 12:45 a.m. and then fail "several" sobriety tests. Police took the senator into custody, charged him with a DUI and released him on a $1,000 bail. (Note: It's unclear what Crapo was drinking, but since Barack Obama told him to drink egg nog, we're going with egg nog.)

Anybody else wonder at times if being a teetotaler and/or an outward teetotaler sets people up for horrible mistakes in judgment like this?

Maybe there is something to be said for learning to drink responsibly early in adult life and Mormons don't get taught/mentored in drinking responsibly because nobody should drink at all. It's analogous to refusing to talk about safe sex/birth control with LDS kids because sex is entirely forbidden anyway.

I can see why a lot of parents think it's a good idea to introduce older teenaged kids to a little bit of alcohol in a supervised home environment. That makes it less taboo and teaches them about drinking responsibly: small amounts with food and NEVER before driving.

A 30-something who starts experimenting with drugs and drinking is pretty concerning. Because they are rejecting their moral code completely the tend to go super far and often off the deep end. That is what I've observed anyway.

This is the precise reason that all of us exmos are alcoholics.

Early adults never drink responsibly, whether they're mentored or not.
