I rarely participate in these gun rights debates because they are pointless. The second amendment isn't going anywhere.

I grew up in a home without guns. My family never talked about hating guns. We just didn't see a purpose in having them. What good would it do? A kid could play with it and accidentally shoot himself. Someone could get depressed and use it. We just didn't see a purpose.
When people have lived their whole lives without guns, and when they witness tragedy elsewhere (murder, suicide, etc), it is very hard to understand why gun owners are so passionate about their guns.
Russians like to eat raw meat gelatin. I grew up without raw meat gelatin, and it seems disgusting to me, so I have no interest in trying it. But Russians love raw meat gelatin and eat it all the time. I view guns the same way I view raw meat gelatin, except the gelatin doesn't kill people.
I think that's fair. If I didn't hunt, I wouldn't see a purpose for them either.
I love how libs are pointing to China as a land of sensible gun control. Hey asshole, no one has guns there because it's a fucking police state! China killed millions of it's own citizens!! What kind of utopian la la land are these idiots living in??
Did you just call me an asshole? Not nice.
The Soviet Union was bad, but they did some things better than America (like literacy).
Nothing wrong with stopping to think about things with a little nuance once in awhile.

I will say that when the scouts went rabbit hunting, my mom suggested that I not go along.

The only guns I have handled were a shot gun, shooting pheasants and a 22 shooting rabbits. When Prophet said we shouldn't be shooting animals for just fun I immediately stopped shooting rabbits. It is good to have a Prophet to guide us.
I have thought about getting a hand gun for protection, but haven't done it. Two of my boys and a brother own a lot of guns and enjoy target shooting. I don't understand why that is fun and I would tell them I fear one of their children getting a hold of one of those guns. They assure me they are very careful, but I still worry.

I was using the term asshole in a general sense. But I did edit so you wouldn't think I did, guess you quoted me before I had a chance to edit. LOL at your hey the Soviet Union was bad but at least you could read goood! example. But don't read anything besides our propoganda or you'll get shot or sent to the gulag!
We're free because we have firearms. It was true then, it's true now. Liberty can be a messy thing sometimes.

There are horrible things in both American and Russian history. This stuff is complicated, but America has done plenty of immoral things. Ever heard of slavery? Ever been to Russia? Read Russian literature? Do you speak Russian? Who are you anyway?
I imagine that communist party members in the 1950s Soviet Union had a nice, brainless but patriotic attitude like yours.

Who the hell cares if you can read if you live in a totalitarian society? Let's get perspective here. Yes I've heard of slavery, something that has existed since the beginning of time and something we ended with firearms.
And what's with the "who are you anyway" question?

The Soviet Union was not always totalitarian. Their government had a striking evolution from its founding to perestroika. You think about things so simplistically, but you probably don't know Russian history.
I compared a Chinese knife assault to the American bushmaster assault as an example, and you responded by calling me an asshole. I don't really know who you are. I don't normally read your posts.
What are you saying about slavery existing since the beginning of time? You think that justifies it? You saying it wasn't America's fault? Or are you just saying that guns are good? Was it civilian guns that ended slavery or military guns?

I am not sure this is a very good time to attempt to sort out the gun control debate. As they say, bad facts make bad law, and these facts are as bad as they get.

I am not sure I get your point either? Are you saying the Chinese form of government is better than ours?
Also, I want it clear I have never called you an A-hole and I read all of your posts.

I'm saying there is probably at least one policy of the Chinese government that is better than an analogous policy of the American government. That's all I'm saying. Maybe two things.

So what do you think America's gun policy should be? More guns? Bigger guns? Fewer guns? Same number of guns? As many guns as people want? Grenade launchers? What type of weapon is too big for you? A suitcase nuke?
Tell the world you like assault rifles. We want to hear it.

This is a serious question I don't know the answer to. What is the Chinese policy toward people that show anti-social behavior such as some of these mass killers showed?
