This might be my favorite thing ever said on CS."Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

Citing the CBO as an authoritative source is like citing Miss Cleo.

CBO bases it estimates on the idea that the government will not make any changes. They assume that everything will be in some magically steady state where the birds are singing, the bees are buzzing, and dogs and cats are living together in perfect harmony.Originally posted by imanihonjin View PostPray tell, how does the CBO analyze what something will cost. More specifically, who feeds the CBO the data on which it bases it analysis?

Maybe with the government shutdown that magically state will actually be achieved."If there is one thing I am, it's always right." -Ted Nugent.

The checks are still going out, the food is still being expected. Life carries on outside of DC. I personally won't notice until the federal court start shutting down which supposedly won't be for a couple weeks.Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

I had a call with my staff in London and I mentioned that it took me 90 minutes to get to work today. She figured it was due to the government shutting down. I guess it's being billed as a big deal in foreign countries. Funny that it really has no material effect in the US. Even gov't workers that don't have to go to work will likely receive back pay for their time off, so it's really just a round about gov't strike."Discipleship is not a spectator sport. The stock market is even up. If this was going to be such a big hit on the full faith and credit of the US, I would have to think the stock market would have tanked this morning.Originally posted by Moliere View PostI had a call with my staff in London and I mentioned that it took me 90 minutes to get to work today. It's laughable that CNN had a countdown clock to the gov't shutdown. I do wonder if at 11:59pm last night they cut away to Times Square to see the Fiscal Cliff ball dropOriginally posted by imanihonjin View PostThe stock market is even up. It is in the best interests of the democrats for the market to tank. This will put the heat on the republicans to cave. I heard some pundits on MSNBC this morning bemoaning the fact the market looked to open positive.Originally posted by imanihonjin View PostThe stock market is even up. Isn't this great, both sides wishing for crap to happen so they can blame the other side and get elected. This has gone on forever though, so I guess it is part of what makes America work.
Personally and selfishly I would like to see some more tanking in the market. I didn't have the guts to buy as much as I wanted yesterday.
I do feel bad for the government workers who are now going to have a bunch of paid days off.
Edit: My post in NO way is an inuendo or suggestion as to what anyone, except myself. should be doing when it comes to investing.Last edited by byu71; 10-01-2013, 08:38 AM.

Please tell me that you rode your bike. Maybe the USA will get back its S&P AAA credit rating now that it has a debt reduction plan.Originally posted by imanihonjin View PostThe stock market is even up. Why the 95-96 shut down isn't really on point:
