Honestly, does anyone really care? The shutdown will be over in a week or two and everyone will be back to work. The workers will be paid for the time they missed, just like pretty much every other time the gov't shutdown, and life will go on as normal. I'm not sure any of this is news....except for the cable news networks
I'm waiting to see if my meetings tomorrow are cancelled or not. Otherwise I don't care.

I care. The market is down 127 today after sliding about 400 in previous days. Now I need one of you bright guys/gals to tell me when this is going to end so I can load up.

Of course, the stimulus was to kick start our economy so it would be growing like crazy again. This would have solved our problems if it did anything close to what the liberals were expecting it to do. Unfortunately it didn't do the job and now we just have more debt to deal with. I guess the stimulus just wasn't big enough. Maybe we should try double or nothing.

We already did with QE1 and then we did QE2. I think we are now on QEINFINITY which means the Fed can just buy as much as it wants. There is no end in sight, but who really cares? We'll float this thing for another 40-50 years and I'll be dead then so I really don't care. Long-term sustainability isn't really that necessary.

Maybe the government should buy a lottery ticket or two. If they win the big one then we can keep the government open for like another 30 minutes.

This really is getting old. Outside of a few partisan types I follow in twitter, I can't even bring myself to pay attention to politics anymore.

Not credit "agencies". Just the S&P. And it is true. There is no way the credit gets downgraded if there isn't a debt ceiling and a real risk of default due to it. The deficit was shrinking as a percent of GDP when the US was downgraded.

That's true of every country everywhere- and I like our odds of going longer than those of any other country.

                        • So only essential government workers are working today?

Yep... it's a golf day for Obama. Ironically the obamacare program will still be moving forward:

                            [...]
One program that won't be halted: the health-care law, which begins allowing people to sign up for insurance through the new marketplaces on Tuesday and which is at the center of the political fight. House Republicans have said they won't fund the government unless Democrats agree to delay the law. But in large part because the program has its own guaranteed funding stream, it will continue apace.

But the national zoo and the "panda cam" will be closed...

The National Zoo would close, as would its popular "Panda Cam," showing the month-old baby panda and her mother.

Pray tell, how does the CBO analyze what something will cost. More specifically, who feeds the CBO the data on which it bases it analysis?
