          That's not the point.

The point is you didn't choose. And neither do gays. It just is.

And comparing polygamy and homosexuality is pretty silly as well.

But go on. You're doing quite well in this "discussion".

When did you choose to not be gay?

I'll probably regret taking the thirty seconds it will take to do this, but I'll try anyway.

Blitzkrieg--you'll notice that no one who has been around here for a very long time is engaging with you. The reason? You're eerily similar to a poster who first surfaced years ago named exUte, only--and I thought I'd never say this--not quite as smart and even more arrogant (apologies if you're smarter than you're showing--I'm going off what I can see). We thought we were rid of exUte for a while until he resurfaced as Hallelujah on this site (a post search will help you here).

Douger and Harry Tic weren't around for these incarnations, so they're learning the lesson that we learned years ago: it's just not worth the effort. Already, I'm regretting the minimal effort this is taking because well, you're just not going to get it. You're recycling arguments that have been so thoroughly disproven that if you don't understand their fallibility by now, you're never going to. It's the same reason I don't discuss the MMR-autism link or the roundness of the earth. You're Exhibit A on why the Church's handling of this issue has been so flawed--it produces members with anachronistic ideas like you. I'd much rather my son be gay than be bigoted and narrowminded, so if "recruiting" really happens, I'll support a Blitzkrieg ban well before a homosexual one. I can understand an argument for BSA not allowing gay scoutmasters, but you're not making it; you're unintentionally arguing the opposite.

I'll bow out now. I'll come back once you make a sort of interesting and defensible point. Otherwise, take my (and others') silence as a sign that you're not there yet.

Blitzkrieg, I am now convinced you are not real. You are a liberal dupe who has created a caricature of the left's view of every conservative. You are too abrasive, bigoted, intolerant, and socially tone deaf to be anything but a fake or the right's version Bill Ayers. I can't even stand you and I'm a pretty conservative fellow. I don't know or care much who previous posters were. The collective wisdom of the long term posters is that there is a gay gene that will express itself regardless of environment. This has not been scientifically proven, but it is a viewpoint that is widely promoted by gays and accepted by liberals. I guess bisexuals just ended up with half of that gene? And kids who get molested end up being more likely to express that latent gene? An Anne Henche ended up with the gene, but it only expressed itself for a few years, then went into remission like cancer? You see, it's just too silly to believe this when you really look at people's behavior. Clearly most people are attracted to the opposite sex as evolution demands, some are attracted to the same sex as an evolutionary bust, and some could go either way depending on the messaging they are given. If you can't see this you aren't being honest, you're just towing the liberal line.

I can't decide if cowboy is right, and this is a caricature, or if Blitzkrieg is being genuine and is just that deluded. If cowboy is right, Stephen Colbert does this act much better and with more tact and intelligence. If cowboy's wrong, then Blitzkrieg is just another white dude on the wrong side of humanism and history, as blasé as Kleenex box art in May.

As Jeff alluded to, I am not comfortable sending my son with a group of leaders I don't necessarily trust. Fortunately, if my son wants his eagle, he just needs ten nights a year - those nights don't have to be with the scouts if I'm not the SM when that time comes.

Let's just go ahead and eliminate camping from the YM program and be done with these issues.
As you know, you don't have to be the SM to camp with your scout troop and your son. And you might want to double check the Camping MB requirement. At least in my troop, those 20 nights need to be with the scout troop. This came up recently because a YM in my trooop tried to pass off his Camping MB by camping in his backyard.

I've camped out a lot with my scout troop and my three sons. There was a time when I camped more frequently with our troop than the SM. I camped with the scout troop not because I enjoy camping with them but because I didn't always trust the SM/leaders and because there was always a need for adult leadership.

                                Camping MB requirement:
9.Show experience in camping by doing the following: a. Camp a total of at least 20 days and 20 nights. Sleep each night under the sky or in a tent you have pitched. The 20 days and 20 nights must be at a designated Scouting activity or event. You may use a week of long-term camp toward this requirement.
