My nazi comparisons have been fully vindicated. You probably aren't paying attention, but top-level political experts from all corners are drawing the same comparisons. Yesterday, George Freaking Will called the Republican Convention a "mini-Nuremberg rally". Swish!Originally posted by byu71 View PostIs that an order? Swish, LOL. Just like a lot of people, perhaps you, George Will has gone all emotional on this thing. Didn't he quit the republican party or at least threaten to. If he did, he couldn't just denounce Trump but like a big baby do the I will show you thing and leave. You will all be sorry.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostMy nazi comparisons have been fully vindicated. Kind of thin skinned today huh. I will resist responding anymore today so you can build up your resistence to not being agreed with.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostHaha. BYU71 mocking George Will. Love it.

Trump running for President and winning the nomination is a bonanza for virtue signalers. It's not that I disagree with them, but rarely do you have a single event you oppose that allows you to pat yourself on the back for over a solid year.Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

Me too, I actually listened to him a little bit on my commute. He brought up the lawsuit against Trump over the alleged rape of a 13 y/o girl. Called out the hypocrisy of republicans who had such ire for Clinton over the allegations made against him but make excuses for Trump.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostAnother bizarre outcome of this election cycle: I kind of like Glenn Beck.

I agree with you for the most part, but would add a few things. The GOP gained momentum from Tea Party energy, almost like a drug. The birther stuff, the cryptic racism, it was tolerated because it helped them. I've been impressed by you pointing out that while you disagreed with Obama's agenda, he was probably a good man. I feel the same way about George W.Originally posted by byu71 View PostGlen Beck and his entertainment cronies like Hannity, Limbaugh, Laura whatever her name is are as responsible for Trump heading the republican party as anyone. They have blasted the republican party and the so called "establishment" almost as much as they have the democrats. McCain and Romney weren't conservative enough. They criticize Ryan constantly for not being tough enough. They gravitate to so called principled conservatives like Cruz and our very own "far, far right" Mike Lee.
I don't know how one group running around with all these prinicipled people can ever beat a group that are united on one thing, the ends justifies the means.
Hannity and Beck say they are not republicans, they are conservatives. I wish they would lead a movement to have a conservative party. Maybe then the republicans can build some kind of moderate party where I think most Americans actually are.
A guy you despise, Harry Reid, called Trump the GOP's Frankenstein monster. I think he is right. Part of the problem is fear of main stream media, as well as its decline. There are fewer and fewer professional reporters left to cover scandal. People turn to bloggers and personalities as their news sources, and that creates an environment where confirmation bias rules.
Democrats aren't blameless by any means but they lacked the talk radio infrastructure, like all the stations clear channel own, as well an interest in the medium. I think the Tea Party/hard right is better at indoctrination.

I have a feeling the Tea Party got hi-jacked. The media ascribed a lot of things, such as "racism" to the group. Somehow they were villified by the press and yet black lives matter gets cover for anything their members say.Originally posted by frank ryan View PostMe too, I actually listened to him a little bit on my commute. Along comes Hannity, Rush and other knotheads who actually claim responsibility for the rise of the tea party. I really don't know what the tea party is anymore. Is it Rubio who I really like or Cruz who I don't care for.
I really don't know how long the republicans will wander in the wildnerness and perhaps let the far righties go and try to have a more moderate-conservative party. One that could attract the middle.

There really is actual racism on much of the far right. The Trump movement has given those folks the idea that it's safe for them to be "mainstream" again. Read the blogs of the so-called "alt right" which can't hide how happy they are with Trump. Nor do they hide their disdain for Jews, Mexicans, and now even Mormons, since as a group we aren't sufficiently anti-immigrant and too many of us (like Mitt Romney) don't like Trump.Originally posted by byu71 View PostI have a feeling the Tea Party got hi-jacked.
