No, I seriously doubt it. But the alternatives are so dire that it seems worth a shot.Originally posted by byu71 View PostSo you think there is a chance the Independent would win? Agree, the alternatives are that dire and I wonder what has brought us to the point we have two candidates like this. Although I think Obama's policies are horrible and he has been a terrible President, I don't consider him a person I wouldn't play golf with. I would pass on the opportunity to play with Hillary or Trump.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostNo, I seriously doubt it. But the alternatives are so dire that it seems worth a shot.

I think there's enough dissatisfaction in both parties that the right independent would stand a chance. Personally I think Mitt is the best guy to bridge that gap. 22% without even being a candidate is nothing to sneeze at. With that said I wish he'd either get in or shut up about Trump.Originally posted by byu71 View PostSo you think there is a chance the Independent would win? I didn't know he was polling that high. If true he could get on the debate stage with Trump and Hillary and that would be fun. I also agree with you, get in or shut up.Originally posted by Shaka View PostI think there's enough dissatisfaction in both parties that the right independent would stand a chance. That all depends on your definition of "intervening". Sure, the US wasn't officially in the war. But giving piles of military hardware and supplies to the Allies getting back a bunch of IOU's and a wink, wink, nod, nod, in return isn't really non-intervention in my book.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostWe intervened militarily in Europe after Hitler declared war on us a few days after pearl harbor, as a result of a secret pact he had made with the Japanese.
That aside - I agree with you. WWII was a no-brainer as far as US intervention. While jumping in sooner may have slowed the Germans initially, I tend to believe that gearing up the factories and production capacity prior to sending soldiers really built a tidal wave when the US did enter.
There is no way an independent wins. But not voting for either of the 2 big parties hopefully gets them to recognize that they are doing something wrong and gets them looking for ways to right it. Hopefully it gets them looking at not just candidates, but party positions that are holding them back.Originally posted by byu71 View PostSo you think there is a chance the Independent would win? Honestly - I think the republican party is done. They are trying to create an amalgam of cooperation among religious zealots, constitutionalists, and basic conservative folks. The problem is that at least 2 of those groups tend to be single issue voters without the capacity to compromise.
Which is really what the Democrats have going for them. They tend to have multiple groups that may have a primary focus as far as issues that are important to them, but they are able to look beyond that, compromise, and come together recognizing that doing so gets them closer to what they want than the results they would get if they didn't.

You must admit, though, he was pretty funny in city slickersOriginally posted by byu71 View PostAs far as Bill Crystal goes, I think I remember disliking him when he kept dissing Romney during Romney's primary run. He (Crystal) reminds me of Erik Erickson and that isn't a complimentPLesa excuse the tpyos.

I agree that a 3rd pay run has little chance of wining, but then again I gave trump zero chance at getting the nomination, so who knows?
As far as Gary Johnson's comments... Who cares? Every candidate for president makes dumb comments when their words are under scrutiny 24/7. He is still by far the most qualified of any current candidate.

The dissatisfaction is so high that Trump has something like 2.5 million more votes than Romney got in the 2012 primary. Romney is robotic and boring, he'd likely be an above average president, but the last boring guy people voted for was HW Bush who was glowing in Regan afterglow and running against an awful opponent.Originally posted by Shaka View PostI think there's enough dissatisfaction in both parties that the right independent would stand a chance. You think Romney would only be an above average President? Time to check yourself. If the average only included George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abe Lincoln, and Ronald Reagan then maybe you have a point.Originally posted by HuskyFreeNorthwest View PostThe dissatisfaction is so high that Trump has something like 2.5 million more votes than Romney got in the 2012 primary.
