So now things said on Howard Stern at Stern's suggestion, amidst "intense laughter", are to be taken seriously? This either says that there isn't enough to truly attack Trump on or Trump's attacks on the media are well founded. I think there is plenty to attack Trump on actual points he's made while running for president that digging out a response to the host of a comedy talk show shouldn't be among the things people are talking about. However I realize I don't view Trump as worse than Hitler and Lucifers secret love child, rather I think he'd just be a bad president so my views aren't inline with most of the media/CS.

The thing is, Trump is walking piece of absurdly, a come-to-life South Park character. He says ridiculous, intentionally offensive stuff and his followers praise him as being honest. No one is saying he will be worse than Hitler, but a lot of his support is coming the GOP's most vile-elements. He has at best, turned a blind eye to violence at his events. Ted Cruz is hyper-conservative and he is more likely to implement policies that worry me but he has not courted the stormfront crowd.
Trump had a fucking Wrestlemania storyline. Frankly, he deserves more scrutiny than he is getting. Trump is worse than a typical candidate from either party.

Murray's proposal from a few years ago (link from CMBF above) would be $10k for each adult with a $3k premium deducted for health insurance, resulting in a net $7k payment directly deposited into a bank account. There would be no decrease to the grant for the first $25k of earned income, but the grant would gradually decrease for earned income between $25k - 50k down to $5k.

His plan would use the guaranteed income to replace Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, welfare programs, agricultural subsidies, and corporate welfare. He estimated the first year cost of the GI system to be about the same as the cost of the replaced programs. He expects the growth rate of a GI system to be substantially lower than the projections for all the replaced programs, in part because of the simplicity of the bureaucracy required to administer the GI system as opposed to all the other programs. He projected $1 trillion in annual savings within 17 years of implementation. He ignores transition costs, citing flexibility considering the eventual savings.

I like the idea but that would be quite a hit for retirees on SS and those planning on retirement soon. Nothing like having your annual $30K payment trimmed down to $5K by Uncle Sam.

The GOP has fundamentally changed. It is no longer a conservative party. It is a populist right wing party with no ideologically consistent beliefs. As Republicans slowly start to coalesce behind Trump, you will see that the party has no soul or principles. You will see who believes in the party, and who believes in conservatism. A truly ideological conservative will not support Trump. I imagine a good portion of the party are Republicans first.

I liked this quote from Trump about Cruz in a CNN piece announcing Trump's win tonight:

"It is no surprise he has resorted to his usual tactics of over-the-top rhetoric that nobody believes," Trump said.

Obviously, the same applies more to Trump, except that a remarkably large number of people do believe.

I don't follow politics as closely as you folks, but Cruz scares me because he's smart; Trump scares me because he's dumb. Both are scary as hell.

Listening to Ted Cruz give his exit speech is all you need to inform you of what has happened to the Republican Party. He is himself plenty loathsome--but Trump is just more perceptive about the Republican Party's true soul. The phrase "Judeo -Christian nation" makes my flesh crawl. At least he didn't call his wife and daughters "beautiful".
