It's defunct. They were closer to the communist party back then.

Today's Liberal Party would lean left of the mainstream Democratic party. There is a more liberal Green Party, which always does poorly in national elections.

Throwing out the first amendment? Haven't there always been things you can and cannot say? I assume you're talking about the closing mosques thing with this. And he never even really said that. But that's the spin ya'll are putting on it. OK.

Due process? What is that coming from? Seems like a new one, so I'm interested. What are you tying that to?

Mandated boycott? I remember hearing him say something about maybe Starbucks should be boycotted. He said maybe he would do it even though there is one in his building. But when did he ever say it should be "mandated"?

It's hard to take anything you say seriously when you slant it so heavily.

Then again, I suppose this is a political thread. And elections are all based upon whatever shit people can make up and make stick.

And I'm no Trump fan. I just suppose I think he should be trashed for things that he's earned. I kinda feel the same way about all politicians no matter what side they're from.
This isn't spin. I'm not attacking Trump because he is a Republican. How about all the stuff about shutting down Mosques? Banning Muslims from entering the country (based on their religious beliefs). Um, I'm not a lawyer but seems unconstitutional. http://www.politico.com/story/2015/1...mosques-216008
Ok, he didn't say he would mandate a boycott of starbucks but he did say this:"I guarantee if I become president, we're going to be saying 'Merry Christmas' at every store," http://www.cnn.com/2015/11/09/politi...ott-christmas/ How would he do that?

Trump said we should kill (his words were "take out" lest you think I'm being inflammatory) the families of terrorists. http://talkingpointsmemo.com/livewir...rists-families

Trump believes that children of non-citizens born in the US, actually aren't citizens (he talked to some smart lawyers so he knows). http://www.motherjones.com/mojo/2015...e-constitution

He wants control over the internet: http://www.independent.co.uk/news/pe...-a6764396.html
I'm not being hyperbolic. Your reply was insulting.

I meant Sanders is closer to Justin Trudeau than Hugo Chavez.

The thing is that Trump is a clown but not an idiot. He says things that are extreme and inflammatory but he adds some condition that gives him an out or a path backwards. So he talks about registering muslims but he says it is something we need to "look at." He is intentionally inflaming the passions of the most extreme while leaving himself some room to maneuver.
            PLesa excuse the tpyos.

This is what I'm talking about.

A reporter asks him a question "should we". He responds with "we should look at it" and it's reported as "he's going to".

I don't agree with what he's saying. I have no intent to vote for the guy. But I also think that he's being misrepresented. And the reason that bothers me, isn't because I like the guy. It's because is it is galvanizing his supporters to not even consider alternatives. Because the stories/reporters/blogs/etc. are lying about what he said, so they must be lying about everything else they say about him too.

I wouldn't say it leans left of the Democratic Party. It is about on par. Based on the latest campaign it has very similar policies to Obamas (with keystone and marijuana being some obvious exceptions). Honestly, we are not sure where Trudeau will fall at this point. His father was left of the Democrats. Back in the Paul Martin days, the party was more to the right than the Democrats.

I definitely think Bernie is left of the Canadian Liberals. Probably more closely aligned with the New Democrats in that their big issue is income inequality and they are big supporters/beneficiaries of unions. They also both oppose free trade deals like the TPP.

With all that said, I also agree that Sanders is closer to Trudeau than Chavez by quite a big.

I totally forgot about the NDP. They are more left than the US democratic party, and more mainstream than the green party I mentioned.

I agree that Sanders is closer to Trudeau. I doubt Trudeau will swing as left as his father did, but he's only been in politics for a couple of years. We'll have to see what happens.

The only chance for GOPers (aka, everyone on this board) is Rubio. Jeb's dead and everyone else is toxic.

A fundamentally unserious group of republicans. Congrats, tea partiers. Although Trump is probably not your first choice for candidate, your disdain for the establishment allowed someone like him to take over the primaries.

To be fair, that poll was conducted over 4 days, only one of which included Trumps latest controversial remarks. Expect the his numbers to be higher in the next poll.

We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. Primaries are such a solid way to get candidates, I can't wait for Oregon's in late May. My voting voice will really be heard!
