Interesting article on the issue of raising taxes for the top earners.

I'm not sure why he stops at 45%, he should go even higher and allow the funding of even more programs. If he just went to 70%, the numbers would be incredible.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostInteresting article on the issue of raising taxes for the top earners.

I also like the idea of getting rid of the capital gains exemption on inherited assets. When your parents die and leave that $300k house they bought for $80k back in 1975, I'm sure the heir that's barely scraping by and hoping to live in the house will appreciate the magnanimity of this NY Times writer with other peoples money.Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

What if you threw in a clause that it did not apply to the first $1M or so?Originally posted by Color Me Badd Fan View PostI'm not sure why he stops at 45%, he should go even higher and allow the funding of even more programs. If he just went to 70%, the numbers would be incredible.

Funny what lengths we go to in order to protect our poor billionaires."There is no creature more arrogant than a self-righteous libertarian on the web, am I right? Those folks are just intolerable."

Why not strip the billionaires of 90% of the assets they already have? The poorest one would still be "scraping" by with only $100 million.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostWhat if you threw in a clause that it did not apply to the first $1M or so?

There's not very many billionaires and a lot of everyone else, the votes are.certainly there. That money sure would pay for a lot of stuff.Part of it is based on academic grounds. Why do people think they are entitled to other people's money? There are more of us and we think you have too much, so we will just take it? What's the moral principle here?Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostFunny what lengths we go to in order to protect our poor billionaires.
