Some plaudits are in order:
1. For Jeff Lewbowski: he warned us that it was close and he was right. MBN and Moliere should be banned for their terrible conduct.
2. For byu71's work buddies: they were right all along.
3. For my adopted home, DC: overwhelming Hillary support (94%!) AND a vote for statehood all in one night? Kudos to me. Now let's hope Congress brings statehood to the floor.
4. To YOhio, Goatnapper, CMBF, etc: the streak is intact! Can you pretty please call the Utah/BYU '17 game right now? I need some assurance that everything is going to be OK.

You can pretty much rest assured that under the next Congress, statehood for DC is dead in the water. Why would republicans give democrats 2 more democrats for senators and a couple (how many Congress people would they get) democrat congresspeople?Originally posted by Applejack View PostSome plaudits are in order:

Agree on all counts. The 'Clinton News Network' was by far the best run.Originally posted by Art Vandelay View PostA few random thoughts:
* After seeing how decisive Trump's victory was, and the reason that most stated they voted for him "to change the culture of Washington", I'm not as confident that Romney would have beaten Hilary as I was before the election. Obviously a hypothetical, but I don't know that Mitt would have inspired the working class to vote, the way Trump did
* I spent time watching most every channel last night. Anderson Cooper is by far the best lead commentator. He is smart, articulate, and even-handed. Chris Mathews and Rachel Maddow looked like they couldn't get to a bar fast enough. Fox News is almost unwatchable, the only guy I liked was the data geek guy who kept refusing to call states, even as Megyn Kelly pleaded with him to.
* Baron Trump is going to be fantastic to watch the next 4 years. I might get a snapchat account just to see how much teenager hatred he spews towards his father, in the future.
* Corey Lewandowski is insufferable. He is smug, condescending and snarky. Basically, he is the conservative embodiment of what Gawker was.
* I don't agree with Van Jones on many things, but I thought he owned the night for talking heads.
I can't even remember why Van Jones got a bad rap during the first Obama campaign, or whenever it was people started hating on him. But he was easily the most articulate and heartfelt commentator on that panel. I felt for him during that snippet about children."...you pointy-headed autopsy nerd. Do you think it's possible for you to post without using words like "hilarious," "absurd," "canard," and "truther"? Your bare assertions do not make it so. Maybe your reasoning is too stunted and your vocabulary is too limited to go without these epithets."

Something I learned through this was what a bad candidate Romney was. Basically the country is looking for the opposite of a traditional big business Republican. I think Romney would have lost to Hillary. People are afraid of a global economy and want to be told we can go back to 1950 when we didn't have to worry about jobs being moved overseas. It's not possible. Or at least, I'm pretty sure it would be disastrous, even if it were possible. But that's what people want to hear. Usually it's the Dem's that are closest to that message, but somehow Trump glommed onto it as a Republican.Originally posted by Art Vandelay View PostA few random thoughts:

BYU|31Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

Be careful the defacto Trump people on this board will make tin foil jokes and call you conspiratorial despite being poorly informed. But yeah, Putin getting his way is fucking terrifying. Kurt something or other, from Newsweek was saying Western intelligence sources were feverishly researching Trump. He also reported that the Kremlin has blackmail tape on Trump from a visit he made to Moscow.Originally posted by old_gregg View Postassange and putin got their way. let that sink in.

Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

Didn't touch it, although I leave you to decide whether that was due to a long-term view of the markets, or simply inertia on my part.Originally posted by byu71 View PostPAC, you are too smart to pay attention to commercials on CNN. Being as smart as you are though, I hope you didn't find a way to unload your 401K overnight.
