Is unwashed masses a code word for uneducated or an entirely different group that says they will vote for Trump.

Let's see, unwashed, stupid, uneducated, racist, mysogonist (sp), authoritarians are the groups of people who vote for Trump fit into. Any others.

    • The main thing responsible for our dysfunctional politics is extreme polarization. And that's caused by a combination of almost everyone in America living within a gerrymandered congressional district and the fact that the people who do all the heavy lifting at the grassroots level tend to be extremists. They're the only ones who care enough to devote the time to it. The gerrymandered districts reward those folks because the representative never feels any need to listen to anyone other than the political junkies who worked to put him into office. The majority are much more moderate, but since the districts are gerrymandered they still mostly all belong to the same party within the district and always vote the party line even despite the fact they don't agree with all the extreme rhetoric. The elected rep in the gerrymandered district never has to worry about listening the the losing side because there aren't many of them, and so to him, the most important people to listen to in his district are the people who care the most, who are usually at the extreme.

Here's how to fix it, but it would be hard to do:

There is a theory in political science that says that the number of major political parties in a country is almost always 1+ the number of representatives per district. So in other words, since there is one rep to congress in this country per district, we end up nationally with 2 major political parties. I think we should amend the Constitution to raise that number to 2 per district. Everyone votes for one, but the top two vote getters are elected. That should allow a third major party to emerge. What that would do is give legitimacy to more than two voices in the discussion, and most likely it would help keep the extremes at bay a little better.

        It was a joke.

But they are definitely blue collar manual laborers, many of whom I would classify as unskilled labor. I hear a lot of Trump support and Hillary hate from them even in a deep blue region like NYC/NJ.

I know, good sarcasm. I have heard those terms used to define Trump voters many times. I even heard someone define the combined group as deplorable people.

You can add "humorless" to the pro-Trump perjoratives.

                • My community is an interesting nexus of right-wing rancher types, progressive-leaning young professionals, and all-out hippies. I see my share of Trump bumper stickers and signs. One that caught my eye recently was the biggest Trump sign I've seen so far planted in the front lawn of a million-dollar home for sale. It is in a desirable area of town. I'll give the owners props for having the courage of their convictions, but I doubt that the majority of people interested in their property would be Trump supporters.

LOL, have we always been a people who basically considered lieing a non-event. Pay for play a non-event. Believing rules and laws apply to others a non-event.

This election has been interesting. As I drive around my neighborhood I haven't seen one Trump sign. There are a few Clinton signs. Most of the lawn ads are for the local school board candidates.
you also live in a nice neighborhood the average trump supporter could never afford to live in

                          • I would definitely put up a pro-Libertarian Party sign in my yard. It would help facilitate some discussion among the people I associate with in my neighborhood -- mostly LDS in my ward. It could serve to break down some barriers I think, and eliminate some misconceptions. This is a good political year for it since so many LDS are not fans of Trump and are more open than usual to thinking about alternatives to the garbage the two party system is offering up right now. But my HOA doesn't allow political signs.

Most people correctly see no difference between the two.
