How do you define "pretty good?" I'm not voting for Trump, but Hillary will be a disaster. She has no considers herself above any law, is entirely self-serving, and either doesn't understand or disregards the economic incentives that make us the world's largest economy. She'll nominate pro-regulation, liberal justices who will further erode congressional power and constitutionally protected rights, while empowering federal agencies, making the presidency more like a dictatorship. Socially, she'll be little better than Trump because her incentive will be to divide the country and blame white privilege (irony alert) rather than work to solve important domestic and social issues. I'll stop there, but I think you need to lay down the crack pipe if you believe she will be a good president.sigpic

Do people on this august site still think that Obama is going to ruin the economy, run up huge bills, increase taxes 10fold, and let terrorists roam free, all while taking away our gun rights? I think Obama has been pretty good, all things considered, and I don't see Hillary changing the script all that much.Originally posted by cowboy View PostHow do you define "pretty good?" I think that Cowboy is definitely over the top, but how has Obama been good? I'd say he has been extremely mediocre.Originally posted by Applejack View PostDo people on this august site still think that Obama is going to ruin the economy, run up huge bills, increase taxes 10fold, and let terrorists roam free, all while taking away our gun rights? He has increased taxes significantly, the economy did not bounce back with the dynamism and quickness if he had not intervened, has appointed liberal justices and engaged in identity politics dividing the populace more than before.
He has done a poor job of foreign affairs, and is overall a very mediocre president.
Hillary is even more divisive with equally bad judgment. She has stated she wishes to increase the estate and gift tax to 65% from 40%, increase taxes on incomes over $250,000, appoint justices to overturn Heller and McDonald, wants to engage in an air war with Syria and Russia.
Will all the horrible things come to pass? I hope not, and will adapt no matter what. If necessary, I can hole up at a beach in Costa Rica, Panama or Ecuador. I can live on a pittance, but I hope I don't have to."Guitar groups are on their way out, Mr Epstein."

This is the first time the economy hasn't returned to trend line growth after a recession in over a hundred years. Obama didn't bother to pass a budget for years, but he took a budget with a $700 billion one-time TARP expenditure in it and made it the new baseline. He is constantly proposing new taxes that would get passed were it not for a GOP Congress, and if you don't think the ACA was an enormous tax hike, you are wrong - just ask Chief Justice Roberts. Despite Iraq begging him to leave a presence, he completely pulled out with our military, enabling ISIS to invade and acquire our modern weaponry - but don't worry, ISIS is just the JV. Finally, every time there is a shooting, Obama makes mention of new gun laws that would erode gun rights. Further, he has proposed legislation that would destroy the energy sector, and since we are the the world's leading energy producer that's kind of a big deal, and he is consistent with a divisive "us against them" message on all social issues. Obama has been every bit the disaster we thought he'd be. I agree with you though, Hillary won't change the script.Originally posted by Applejack View PostDo people on this august site still think that Obama is going to ruin the economy, run up huge bills, increase taxes 10fold, and let terrorists roam free, all while taking away our gun rights? You will be fine, I will be fine. Who will be stifled are people who start small businesses and could grow them to companies employing hundreds or thousands of people. They won't have the capital to pour back into their growing businesses and there will be less capital available to them from risk takers.Originally posted by Topper View PostA $20Trillion Debt does not concern you?

Why take the risk if Hillary is going to get a big chunk of the reward and pass it out to special interest groups voting groups?Last edited by byu71; 10-20-2016, 09:48 AM.

Whether or not Obama has been a 'disaster', I think it's pretty clear that the majority of the country just doesn't see it that way. Many people may disagree with his politics and policies, but there isn't a huge movement to 'right the ship', other than from the GOP. And even they can't get their act together to articulate a coherent alternative.Originally posted by cowboy View PostThis is the first time the economy hasn't returned to trend line growth after a recession in over a hundred years. As for myself, Obama hasn't been exceptional, but he's been adequate. All your dire statements really haven't come to fruition. They may in the future I suppose, but most voters don't see catastrophe yet. And I think Clinton will most likely be in the same vein. She will likely be the president the moderate/center left want her to be. I expect a steady hand and not much else."...you pointy-headed autopsy nerd. Yes, people want a change agent; they think the country is on the wrong track, but they don't want a radical who will challenge the foundations of the Republic. You don't challenge the legitimacy of the election.
