As the 2016 primaries continue, with neither party's nominee yet decided, Gallup finds sharp differences in the enthusiasm expressed by supporters of the various candidates. Among Republicans and Republican leaners, voters who support Donald Trump are the most enthusiastic by far, with a combined 65% describing themselves as extremely or very enthusiastic. This is nearly twice the level of fervor expressed by Republicans backing Gov. John Kasich (33%), and well eclipses the enthusiasm from those backing Sen. Ted Cruz (39%).
On the Democratic side, Hillary Clinton's supporters are more enthusiastic than Sen. Bernie Sanders' supporters, 54% vs. 44%.
It doesn't surprise me that Trump supporters are the most enthusiastic on the R side. It does surprise me that Hillary's supporters are supposedly more enthusiastic than Bernie's. Judging by the quantity and level of annoyance of supporters' posts in my FB feed, Bernie's people are way more excited than Hillary's.

    • Fun new defense for Trump's campaign manager. Self defense.

        • Kasich gets an endorsement from the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel in advance of the Wisconsin primary:

Most important, Kasich appears to be the only Republican left in the race who actually could govern if he does win. Drumpf is Drumpf — vacuous, unqualified and dangerously ignorant of foreign affairs. Cruz is brilliant but unable to escape the twin straitjackets of ideology and ambition. The author of the futile 16-day government shutdown in 2013 over Obamacare, he also conducted a 21-hour filibuster designed to do one thing: burnish the image of Ted Cruz with tea party conservatives. A team player, he is not.

Republicans and independents who value leadership, dignity, pragmatism and experience should vote for John Kasich next Tuesday.

Wisconsin appears to be tightening to a real 3-person race.

Eff that lady. Wish she would accidentally step on Ronda Rousey's toe or something. The weirdest part about her "WE'RE MOVING" tweet is the barrage of people like "OOH! OOH! MOVE TO ____"

                  • A normal presidential candidate, or congressional candidate, or person running for dogcatcher would treat the arrest of a top campaign official for battering a female reporter as a headline from which to run. But Donald Trump is not a normal anything, and he’s not backing down from his defense of his campaign manager, Corey Lewandowski, who was charged on Tuesday with simple battery. This refusal to ever say he was wrong about anything horrible he or his team have done is a big part of Trump’s appeal among his core group of supporters. It will also, eventually, be his electoral end.

I'm not so sure. Trump is DOA if he's the eventual candidate. But the battery charge is pretty small potatoes, when you compare every other crazy thing that has been said and done in the last few months. He doesn't back down, ever, and his supporters love him for that. And I don't think this will be the thing that prevents him from getting the nomination, contested or not.

an even more recent one just came out with Cruz at 40%, Trump 30%, Kasich 21%. The trend in Wisconsin isn't looking good for Trump right now. I also don't think Trump is going to win North Dakota on April 1st. It's a caucus in a conservative western/midwestern state. Prime territory for Cruz. After the4se two states there isn't anything until April 19th. That's a lot of time for the media to talk about the momentum starting to turn the wrong way for Trump and how he will have lost four out of the last five (OH, UT, ND, WI) with his only win in AZ. It will be fun to see his reaction for those two weeks as he is repeatedly asked about having lost four out of the last five. We're going to see some tantrums. This is where Trump starts to get beaten back.

Trump has to win on the first delegate vote at the convention or he won't get the nomination.

Unfortunately, the results in Arizona were disheartening to me because it appears to me that Trump will be stronger in California than I previously thought. I believe the bottom half of California has a GOP electorate that's pretty similar to Arizona's. Trump's going to pick up a crapload of delegates in places like Fresno, Sacramento and in San Bernardino and Riverside counties.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

                        • I'm maintaining some hope that Cruz will do just enough to deprive Trump the nomination, but taking down Trump will leave Cruz fairly maligned in the process. Cruz has been working over state conventions to get anti-Trump delegates in place that will abandon Trump after the first vote.

Those same delegates would have to both flip from Trump and then also change the rules to open up the voting to candidates that didn't get the majority of delegates in 8 states, like Kasich, Paul Ryan or Mitt Romney.

Latest poll in CA has Trump at 36, Cruz at 35. Trump has lost ground there over the last few weeks. From looking at the states coming up, I don't think Trump can get to 1237 without taking all or almost all of the delegates in CA.

From what I've read, it probably wouldn't be that hard to change the 8 state rule. They only put that in 4 years ago to keep Ron Paul from having an influence in the convention.

Cruz will most likely win Wisconsin and the majority of the delegates in CA as long as that National Enquirer article about Pervy Ted has no legs. Multiple women that have been identified in the article have said that the article is a bunch of crap. They still haven't identified the "hooker" yet. My money is that it is one of the "D.C. Madam" girls but Hillary is the one that hired her.
