I typically look for three things in a presidential candidate: character, leadership, and foreign policy. And of course it's always a binary decision when we get to the general election.

Character in a national politician is not something you should expect. With whom are they aligned financially. That will tell you all you need to know.

Upon rejecting the Beatles, Dick Rowe told Brian Epstein of the January 1, 1962 audition for Decca, which signed Brian Poole and the Tremeloes instead.

      • Alabama Governor Agrees to Allow Syrian Refugees Who Can Run a Sub-4.5 40

MONTGOMERY, AL — Alabama governor Robert Bentley reversed his stance today on stopping Syrian refugees from entering the state, saying Alabama would be a “safe harbor to all refugees who prove they can run a sub-4.5 40 and have college eligibility left.” Bentley’s change of mind comes after heavy lobbying efforts from Alabama head coach Nick Saban, the state’s highest-paid employee.

“After careful consideration, I felt that it wasn’t fitting with American ideals to just ban an entire group of people who are being persecuted, no questions asked,” said Gov. Bentley. “Yet there has to be a middle ground. And that middle ground is adding some speed at the skill positions.”

          • A Ted Cruz presidency scares me.

            Imagine this:

{Announcer} "President Cruz will now address the nation."

My fellow Americans, in these days since the heinous attack on the Times Square New Years celebration, we have learned that ISIS was responsible and that they plan to continue their murderous assault on democratic nations around the world. This plague of evil must be swept from the world, and since no one else has the resolve to do it, once again it falls to the United States to do what must be done. Therefore, I am decreeing a new American Doctrine which is this, if a city harbors members of ISIS, just as we did during the Second World War, we will bomb that city into oblivion, and continue to do so on every hamlet, village, town, and city until these attacks stop and ISIS and their empire of hatred are eradicated from this world.

There will be no peace with these people. We cannot win their hearts and minds; there can be no negotiation with someone who views you as unworthy of conversation. Total warfare is our only option since we are unwilling to commit to sacrificing countless more American lives by trying to put troops on the ground and ferret these men out from their hiding spots. As of this moment, a state of war exists between the United States and ISIS and anyone who gives them succor.

Many innocent people will die because of my decision, but many more will die if we do nothing or keep trying to do what we've been doing, which has only emboldened our enemies, weakened our economy and international reputation, and served to inflict PTSD on tens of thousands of soldiers from NATO who had to encounter the horrors of close-quarters combat. I cannot abide that any longer. So, I will act in the way I feel will best protect American lives, assets, and those of our allies. Good night, and God bless the United States.

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

He's not dumb. Say what you will about the guy, but he is most certainly not not brilliant.

I love that a person with that background could say some of the shit he says with a straight face. Guess he's just evil.

People here are not cynical enough about politics. It's a very sophisticated game, where the poli decides upon a message which will garner sufficient base, attack the opponent's base and win an election. It is a set of calculations. These men and women are actors who say what they believe will attract money, organizers and voters. It is much like a chess game on a battlefield. You say a lot of shitty things, if your handlers are telling you need to. Cruz is bright and must believe this is his route or best possible route to be elected. I shake my head when people believe the words spoken as something the poli actually believes. No, he believes the voters he must attract believe in them. That's why a GOP goes whacko during the primary then shifts to the center during the general. And vice versa. It is not about belief, but belief in the stupidity of the electorate.

A high IQ doesn't mean there aren't some common-sense deficits going on. I agree though, he is not a stupid person.
