Did you read the article?Originally posted by cowboy View PostStuff like this makes you wonder how such smart people (and I think the presidential candidates on both sides are smart - you don't get to that level without a fairly high IQ) can say and do such stupid things. Lord help us if Trump is elected. He would be even more authoritarian than Obama, who has been the most 'my way or highway' president we've ever had.
So France's interior minister said he would pursue the dissolution of mosques where hate is preached. Trump said he would hate to do it, but that he would strongly consider closing some mosques where hate is preached.Trump's comments come a day after France's interior minister said he would pursue the "dissolution of mosques where hate is preached."
Trump has plenty of issues to be concerned about. And I haven't thought this particular topic through enough to fully form an opinion on it. But I think this is far from the craziest idea Trump has shared. If there are mosques preaching hate and inciting folks to fight and/or contribute to the fighting, I'm OK with considering how to respond to those actions. Shutting them down might be one of those options.

preaching hate, inciting to violence and actually fighting are three very different things. If you think forced closure of mosques is acceptable for all of these reasons, then you should re-read and re-consider the first amendment.Originally posted by Eddie View PostDid you read the article?

So you can't yell "fire" in a crowded theater. But you can yell "Open fire in a crowded theater?" At what point is the line crossed? I'm not in favor of thought police, don't get me wrong. But I don't believe all speech is free either. There are consequences when you encourage someone to initiate violence.Originally posted by creekster View Postpreaching hate, inciting to violence and actually fighting are three very different things. I never said I thought it was a good idea. I said that another politician in another country said that he was going to DO it. So Trump said "sure, it is something that should be considered here too."
I'm OK with all things being CONSIDERED. And part of that is weighing the consequences, positive and negative, of such action.

The governors don't get to say who the federal government lets in. That doesn't mean that it's a good idea to accept these refugees given recent events. The refugees from Somalia have been here for 20-30 years and they've been a pain in the ass.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

The 2016 Presidential Election Primary Thread
Sanders' foreign-policy knowledge is so bad that when CBS threatened to include questions about the Paris bombings in the recent Democratic debate his aides pitched a fit complaining that it was unfair to Sanders because he hadn't had a chance to "prepare" for foreign-policy issues.PLesa excuse the tpyos.
