Yes it was. And you have a point. But my beef with that sentiment (and I heard it a lot) is that he wasn't able to persuade the legislature or the electorate to move towards him in any significant way, albeit after a relatively short 'honeymoon'. In fact, the democrats even gained seats near the end of his term."...you pointy-headed autopsy nerd. Do you think it's possible for you to post without using words like "hilarious," "absurd," "canard," and "truther"? Your bare assertions do not make it so. Maybe your reasoning is too stunted and your vocabulary is too limited to go without these epithets."

You are getting Bernie's appeal all wrong. He is not charismatic, unless you count doddering old grandpa as charismatic. He isn't offering people things to pander to them; he believes in this policies and this is consistent with his record in the senate. He is the most honest guy in the race.Originally posted by Topper View PostI don't believe we have any candidate that is well-qualified to do a good job. We have candidates one of which will become President but that doesn't mean they have the experience and qualifications necessary to succeed.
We tend to overlook the need for extensive executive and administrative experience. The only exception to that of a governor of a populous state is a high ranking military official. Eisenhower would be viewed as having a successful presidency by most, and it is obvious his significant executive and administrative experience as head of the US military in WWII gave him the ability to both be elected and to govern.
Today's candidates are deficient in experience and abilities. Hillary has had one elected position and did not distinguish herself as Senator from her borrowed state of New York. She also failed to distinguish herself as Secretary of State and her email snafu speaks to her administrative abilities if her explanation is to be believed. Other than that, the only experience she is becoming old. Somehow simply being old makes one qualified. ?!
Bernie is a joke, but charismatic because he can tell people what they wish were true. You can have a richness of benefits at no cost except by taxing the mythical rich. Do we really want somebody whose sole experience is in the massively populated state of Vermont? Choosing somebody from Alaska was a mistake for the GOP. It doesn't matter, Bernie is nothing more than side show entertainment.

I don't understand his appeal at all. He seems to be a doddering old fool, but as a doddering old fool he has a lot of people excited. So in that regard he is no fool and will make a ton of money after the election on the speaking circuit. Where do I sign up for that btw?Originally posted by frank ryan View PostYou are getting Bernie's appeal all wrong. He is not charismatic, unless you count doddering old grandpa as charismatic. Get elected to the senate as a social democrat, from day one support issues a huge chunk of the citizenry care about that few in either party address. Be quirky and quixotic and posses zero pretentiousness.Originally posted by Topper View PostI don't understand his appeal at all. I like Bernie but don't care much for his policies since they would bankrupt the country. However, I agree he's the most honest guy in the race. Kudos to him for not waffling much on his principles, but also kudos to him for sometimes compromising to get stuff done.Originally posted by frank ryan View PostYou are getting Bernie's appeal all wrong. I just don't "huge portion people care about." What do people supposedly care about? It seems being a social democrat means deferring responsibility to the government and shifting the burden from one group to another group. We're not living in the pre-industrial revolution world where employers severely abused workers. People attracted to him are way outside my scope of acquaintances and experience. Don't be confused as we have destitute relatives, poor people we have worked with but not nobody who thinks government can cure social deficiencies by a magical swipe of the hand. Most people I know, middle class or poor, don't really believe that. So who does? He resonates with some but I just don't get him.Originally posted by frank ryan View PostGet elected to the senate as a social democrat, from day one support issues a huge chunk of the citizenry care about that few in either party address. You believe he is authentic? Why? Or is he simply effective at making you believe he is authentic?Originally posted by Moliere View PostI like Bernie but don't care much for his policies since they would bankrupt the country. I agree that Sanders is the one candidate who is exactly what he claims to be. He's an avowed socialist and that is exactly why he needs to be as far away from the White House as possible.Originally posted by frank ryan View PostYou are getting Bernie's appeal all wrong. For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.
Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."
