I know most here are predicting a win for Ryan in this thing, and there are some that probably think it will be a blood bath of epic proportions. I do wonder though how this thing will play out.

Four years ago the vp debate was very scripted. I remember the GOP pushing for this format (I think they knew what they had in Palin at the time) and the dems obviously being fine with it (because, well it's Biden). It turned into a somewhat lackluster debate that was almost as scripted as a bout between The Junkyard Dog and Hacksaw Jim Duggan. I actually watched this debate four years ago because I knew nothing of Palin or Biden.

Biden is obviously not the brightest bulb in the factory, however he is a politician and has been one for decades. I'm hoping the GOP isn't discounting him too much because I can picture a scenario where Ryan spouts off fact after fact after fact only to fail to connect with the audience. While on the other side Biden spouts off talking points but connects with the audience.

In any case, I doubt this debate draws the audience it did 4 years ago (people really wanted to see Palin, especially cj), but it should get a decent audience and hopefully Ryan keeps it real while at the same time pounds Biden into political oblivion.

I think it will be tough for Ryan to get a clear win over Biden. Like you say, he's a seasoned politician and he plays the righteous indignation card as well as anyone. He also has the unique talent of being able to say anything, no matter how outrageous, and getting away with it. I can't think of many politicians who say the crap he does and most people just kind of chuckle or roll their eyes. Over the past few years he's dropped the f-bomb on national tv, made fun of Indians, dry-humped a biker chick on camera, alluded to slavery, told penis jokes and just about every other kind of silly gaffe a politician can make. But he's still standing strong. Quite a challenge for Ryan.

Don't forget his asking for a man in a wheelchair to stand up. That clip was funny and almost made me think I was at a religious revival.

Ryan is definitely the one with the big expectations. Hopefully he doesn't blow it.

I think that's about right. The expectations game alone makes this very difficult for Ryan to win. Ryan has made a living being the guy who is fluent in actuarial. Joe Biden is . . . well, Joe Biden. The best thing you can say about him is that he isn't Sarah Palin. When the difference in qualification between the two candidates is practically conventional wisdom by now, Biden could very easily make up ground in the debate simply by not making a fool of himself in front of Ryan. And I don't think he will.

Didn't I read somewhere that Biden is taking a full week off from the campaign trail just for debate prep? Why would a campaign do that unless they are worried about an epic embarassment. I still think Biden gets totally owned, but it won't matter because the VP debate never moves the needle.

President Barack Obama was a guest at the 1991 wedding of ABC senior foreign correspondent and vice presidential debate moderator Martha Raddatz, The Daily Caller has learned.
On Monday evening ABC spokesman David Ford grudgingly confirmed Obama’s attendance at the wedding, after shielding Raddatz in August by declining to comment when The Daily Caller first reported the story.

One of the grandest benefits of the enlightenment was the realization that our moral sense must be based on the welfare of living individuals, not on their immortal souls. Honest and passionate folks can strongly disagree regarding spiritual matters, so it's imperative that we not allow such considerations to infringe on the real happiness of real people.

His strategy seems to be to laugh and smirk while Ryan talks.

Neither of these guys is impressive.

20 minutes in and I would think it's very unlikely Ryan wins in a bloodbath.

In fact, aside from the smirking and laughing, I'd say Biden is winning. He's a MUCH smoother politician.

Ryan seems nervous and out of his element.

Pretty clear what Biden's strategy is. He is in attack dog mode.

He is. Hopefully it becomes apparent as this goes on. So far, he just seems a lot more comfortable.

Ryan appears to have less personality than Romney was said to have.
