US Identifies Anti-Muslim filmmaker. He is a coptic christian and affiliate of the Christian group Courageous Christians United.

The Southern Poverty Law Center, which monitors hate groups, said Klein is a former Marine and longtime religious-right activist who has helped train paramilitary militias at a California church. It described Klein as founder of Courageous Christians United, which conducts protests outside abortion clinics, Mormon temples and mosques.

It's a good thing the folks in charge are finding out who this guy is, rather than condemning those who actually attacked the embassies. Why would the US want to make an effort to protect its citizens abroad?

What happened in Libya seems like a debacle that I don't understand and want to know how it could happen. It seems planned.

Cairo...are people suggesting we should have shot protestors for climbing the wall and burning the flag? Think of what the world would look like today if that had happened. From what I understand we showed a lot if restraint there and doing so has really paid off.

Awesome tweet "gotcha" by the US Embassy in Cairo.

The first post is from the official Twitter account of the Muslim Brotherhood. The Embassy's reply refers to their Arabic tweet, which had tweets of support for protesters, including a picture with the caption:

“Egyptians revolt for the Prophet’s victory in front of U.S. embassy.”

Aside from tone, I don't see the gotcha. The MB is calling for protests, so it is obvious where they stand.
              Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

The gotcha is that the MB tweet is expressing concern for the Americans, hoping they are OK and that this won't hurt relations. Embassy essentially says, "Thanks, but we are also reading those Arabic posts where you are pouring gas on the fire."

The US administration is now facing a crisis in Libya. Sensitive documents have gone missing from the consulate in Benghazi and the supposedly secret location of the "safe house" in the city, where the staff had retreated, came under sustained mortar attack. Other such refuges across the country are no longer deemed "safe".

Some of the missing papers from the consulate are said to list names of Libyans who are working with Americans, putting them potentially at risk from extremist groups, while some of the other documents are said to relate to oil contracts.

According to senior diplomatic sources, the US State Department had credible information 48 hours before mobs charged the consulate in Benghazi, and the embassy in Cairo, that American missions may be targeted, but no warnings were given for diplomats to go on high alert and "lockdown", under which movement is severely restricted.

Wissam Buhmeid, the commander of the Tripoli government-sanctioned Libya's Shield Brigade, effectively a police force for Benghazi, maintained that it was anger over the Mohamed video which made the guards abandon their post. "There were definitely people from the security forces who let the attack happen because they were themselves offended by the film; they would absolutely put their loyalty to the Prophet over the consulate. The deaths are all nothing compared to insulting the Prophet."
This is an insane point of view.

Unbelievable. The Obama administration of course is denying this.

Shawn Turner, spokesman for the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, emailed: “This is absolutely wrong. We are not aware of any actionable intelligence indicating that an attack on the U.S. Mission in Benghazi was planned or imminent.”

There is a subtle nuancing there. The article says there was "credible information" but the administration says they had not "actionable" information. I would like to know more about the threat before passing judgment. What was the information? How was it different from the other threats they probably get on a daily basis? If they had a good idea this is coming, you have to wonder why they decided to ignore it. Why is the ambassador still there? Surely he is aware of what the threats are. I would not be surprised to find out they misjudged the seriousness of the threat, but the idea that they knew it was serious and didn't bother to tell anyone or didn't care about the lives of thier people doesn't make any sense. I think people get a little carried away by their dislike for the politics of the guy in charge. Most of the civil service and military folks are not political appointments, they are the same people who were there before Obama took office and they will still be there if Romney is elected.

Since they took no action, of course they didn't consider the information to be "actionable." No shit. They were wrong -- the real question is what kind of information they had.

Islamic Democracy is a horrible thing in 2012 and makes me feel like the dictators should be brought back. Maybe in a few decades things will be different if education and secularism can prevail over ignorance and superstition.

I'm not sure how credible the Independent is. It could be one of the infamous British tabloids.

Well it looks like the Egyptian intelligence thought attacks on US embassies were imminent.
