Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

Great contrast to be sure. The girlfriend looks extremely uncomfortable during the interview. I wonder what she was thinking. And, to me, he seemed to be groveling a bit in explaining his behavior. No doubt they both need to grow up a bit. He from abandoning his children and both for bringing young children to a violent, midnight movie.

Also, he was a real prick in Newsies.

I heard them say they took the kids because they couldn't get a sitter.

*insert scratching head emoticon here* I wonder if it ever occurred to them to just not go and wait until they could find a sitter???

Yes, that really bugged me, and made me despair for their kids. Why does the desire to attend the first showing, at midnight no less, trump your parental obligations to your small children? What a warped sense of priorities.

Now you're reminding me more of a depressing interview that I suppose I had repressed. I heard the woman justify the decision by saying, "Hey, we need to have lives and get out, so we just took the kids," or something like that. I sensed from her tone of voice that she didn't really mean that. Heck, Bane, , along with a half-dozen other characters in that movie, would have given my kids multiple nightmares at age 4.

Anyway, hearing about those who did have the courage and instincts to protect the weaker ones who were with them, sad as those stories were, did restore my faith in humanity a little.

Agreed. At the individual level, there were many more encouraging and inspiring stories than depressing ones. I'll focus on those.

First, AR-15's jam... they just do (tighter tolerances for accuracy), adept professionals are very quick at diagnosing and rectifying the problem and getting the weapon back in battery - practicing immediate action drills until they become automatic responses to stoppages. Even during intense action. This idiot was an unskilled amateur assclown with fantasy delusions.

AK's are more reliable, but less accurate... at these distances though that wouldn't make much of a difference. The AK high capacity drum magazines also have feeding issues themselves and are also prone to jamming.

Of course the people in the theater didn't have a chance to escape... their only options were to run away or hide... and the shooter had planned for that. This guy thought he was the Joker... seems the Joker always survives... he wasn't prepared to be shot in the head. Movies and fantasy's don't end like that.

Anybody in a gunfight would prefer to be the one with the most firepower... but even the cheapest made Czechoslovakian 9mm piece of shit... will kill if you know how to aim it properly and keep it serviced correctly.

The time difference to draw and fire from concealed carry, and from open carry is minimal. The deterrent factor is unimportant, no loud noises or bright flashes ever ends a gunfight with a determined adversary... well aimed bullets do.

These issues are all incidental and aside to the main gun control argument.
Devildog is definitely the badass of the board. I wouldn't want to mess with him.
