LDS Church Gives $4MM To University of Utah Law School
It's all a ploy to hold multiple student wards in the UU law schools auditoriums and classrooms. The church is probably coming out ahead on this deal as it will save on building chapels.

I'm sure this just is an olive branch to all the ALUF's who find themselves avidly supporting a BYU grad for POTUS.
There you go again, projecting your parochialism onto The Other. Such a fascinating tribal tendency.

Very astute and wise investment on behalf of the church.
Just as GBH said the Jazz would be good for Utah and church, even more so for the Uof U. There move into the PAC10 and academic standing gives the church exposure without worrying about ahering to the conservative nature as does BYU.
BYU brings great PR to the church from existing church members. The U will bring interest from non members and potential converts. Those converts will turn into many millions in tithing dollars.
Do you guys think the new law building will be luxury filled?
No, but it does help clean up the neighborhood.

I'm just hoping for bathrooms that don't reek of urine.

Is there any basis in reality that the Mormon girls who like to wear short dresses and more revealing blouses go to U of U? If so then I suppose this could help in preserving their connection to the Church.
1. A Law School is not a charitable organization. It is probably the opposite. That last thing this country needs is more lawyers.
2. I hope the Church got the naming rights to the new building.

I'm pretty sure those are the girls who go to UVU.

There's three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who's got the same first name as a city; and never go near a lady's got a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, everything else is cream cheese. --Coach Finstock

I'm hoping it will be called the Thomas S. Monson Law Building.

I still can't believe the church gave $4 million to the UofU Law School
"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

There's no way $4M is going to get naming rights to the building. The Quinney foundation gave $30M in just 2001.
Maybe $4M gets you naming rights to an interior classroom.
