  • Thomas Kinkade passed away on Friday

There are some who are devastated.. And MANY others who are elated by this news...

One thing for sure.. NO ONE had him listed in their death-pool and now his art (Art enthusiast's cringe) will go up in price even more...

Not sure I agree. He sold prints, and I'm sure his company will continue to sell those prints, but I don't think the value of his prints will go up in the same way they'd go up for an acclaimed artist working solely off of commissions.

He left behind a nice little cottage industry as a legacy.

Elated by the news of his death?

Disliking his painting is fine. Being happy that he is dead is bizarre. Seemed like a decent person.

While I'm not elated by his death, there were rumors that his business dealings with his franchisees was less-than-ethical.

I was unaware of this aspect of his life.

If he really were part of a chicanery, I would be willing to reconsider my feelings about his passing, upgrading them from ambivalent to moderately pleased.

One of Kinkade's biggest markets was/is the funeral industry. Most funeral homes have a print or two of his hanging in the building, and a good portion of the stationary you can choose from for funeral programs/cards/etc. are Kinkades. I'm sure he's proud to have come to dominate the death care industry.

GOOD HELL! "were less-than-ethical." Forgive me.

Autopsy results are in. Turns out he OD'd on drugs and alcohol.

Mos everywhere throughout Utah are ripping his paintings off of their walls as we speak.

I like the reference to "the Disney". Very Solonesque.

But Kinkade’s artistic empire, which included a chain of national galleries and an association with the Disney, made him a beloved figure in conservative Christian circles.

There's three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who's got the same first name as a city; and never go near a lady's got a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, everything else is cream cheese. --Coach Finstock

You and your kind drove him to it...

His brother Patrick Kinkade, a professor at Texas Christian University, told the San Jose Mercury news that the artist had been troubled in recent years by a separation from his wife, business problems and critics’ low opinions of his work.
