For being such a "liberal" board, I'm surpised that over 85% here are still not voting for Obama.

There are quite a few Mormons here that are capable of critical thought, but very few liberals.Originally posted by Indy Coug View PostFor being such a "liberal" board, I'm surpised that over 85% here are still not voting for Obama.
Also, I think there are several liberal-minded people on this board that just plan to vote their pocketbook.
And then there are people like SeattleUte, who will probably hold his nose and vote for Romney but never admit it in this poll.Last edited by SoonerCoug; 04-13-2012, 08:25 AM.That which may be asserted without evidence may be dismissed without evidence. -C. Hitchens

He's still waiting to see what happens with the Newt Gingrich floor debate at the convention before he makes his decision.Originally posted by YOhio View PostYou haven't voted yet. Here's a map I found off Google, which shows the new electoral vote reapportionment.

This is from some blog from some guy who styles himself a Kurdish-Swede (lol). I think assigning Ohio to the Republicans is presumptious. I think Florida and NC will go to Romney, but I'm not sure about Ohio. If it does, then Romney needs 17 more electoral votes, and there's basically 43 votes up for grabs at that point. A combination of Virginia and either Nevada or New Hampshire pulls it off. Nevada, New Hampshire and Colorado pulls it off.
I think Romney's going to get Nevada and New Hampshire -- but I'm not sure about any of the other states. After what happened in Colorado in the primary, I'm thinking that Colorado is just full of bible thumpers and dirty Boulder hippies.Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

Yeah after playing around with the map at 270towin.com I'm pretty optimistic about Mitt's chances this November.

I can't say I'm optimistic. Really good job numbers during the summer would make Obama tough to beat.Originally posted by SCcoug View PostYeah after playing around with the map at 270towin.com I'm pretty optimistic about Mitt's chances this November.
But Bush running largely on social conservatism and a hawkish foreign policy really marginalized the GOP. If you look at the map the Kurdish Swede created, which state can Romney pick off that went against Bush in 2000 and 2004? I don't think there's any way in hell he can get Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Washington or Oregon. Remember when Washington and Oregon were in play back in 2000 and even somewhat in 2004? What happened? Now Colorado is becoming like Washington. It's not demographics, it's the fact that a lot of these people didn't see the point in voting for the GOP when they were basically only running social conservatism once the Iraq War looked like a complete disaster.
It would take a fiscally conservative/social moderate, and good economic times between 2013-2016 for the GOP to make headway in these places again.Part of it is based on academic grounds. You know this stuff better than I. But do you think Michigan is a lost cause for Romney? What about New Jersey or Maine? I agree that Romney takes New Hampshire, Nevada, and Virginia. If Obama takes Ohio, then Romney needs to turn Michigan, New Jersey, or Washington (or win Colorado and either New Mexico or Iowa). If Romney loses in Ohio and Colorado, he will need Maine along with New Mexico and Iowa.Originally posted by Color Me Badd Fan View PostI can't say I'm optimistic. I think it's a lost cause this go around. Obama didn't win states like Virginia, Florida and Ohio by a very big margin. I think Virginia, Indiana, Florida and North Carolina are done deals. Ohio will be a huge fight and then it comes down to either New Hampshire or Nevada. Colorado went to Obama by a fairly sizeable margin. That's a strange state -- like I said full of hippies and bible thumpers. Santorum beat Romney handily there. I think Romney stands a better chance in Iowa than Colorado. The limited amount of polling that has taken place in both states suggests that Iowa is winnable and Colorado is a real uphill battle. PPPPPP this week had Obama over Romney by 13 points. A poll in February had Romney over Obama by 2 points in Iowa. Romney is within 3-4 points in Michigan and Pennsylvania, but always wary of these states with large urban areas where the Democratic machine can get the (both dead and alive) votes pushed through.Originally posted by Paperback Writer View PostYou know this stuff better than I. The scenario hinges on Romney winning Colorado or New Mexico without winning Ohio. I think Ohio is going to be easier than either Colorado or New Mexico. Romney is going to have trouble with Hispanics in New Mexico and he doesn't have the mormon base like he does in Nevada to bail him out. IMO, if Romney does indeed win Colorado, he'll win Ohio also.Originally posted by Pelado View PostInteresting site. This election is going to the House of Representatives...
