  • Anyone see the new OMB report or at least hear about it. There were some good things, like the deficit going down.

What I have a hard time grasping though is the 2.3 million jobs that will be turned down due to Obamacare. People who will decide they don't want to work at a certain job or number of hours in order to get insurance. They can pick what they want to do and how much time to spend and the government will subsidize that choice.

To hear the dems come right out and say it is a good thing stuns me. Joe Blow has a family of 5. He is working 50 hours a week. Now he can spend more time going to kids ball games and stuff and work 35 hours. This is a good thing for Joe, but who is going to pay for it?

Can someone explain the logic behind this? My Dad would not be able to figure this out. He was ticked at me when I was 25 years old, had two kids and worked for a CPA firm. I had a bad cold and didn't go to work. Yet that night I played church basketball. He wondered what he had done wrong that I would even consider priorities in that order.

    • You guys got it all wrong. The reduction in hours equivalent of 2.3 million jobs lost is a GOOD thing. It means more freedom.

People who don't want to work don't have to work anymore. Isn't that great?

People are seriously arguing this. Astonishing. Even if it were a good thing to give incentives to not work, it is pretty silly to think that this is what is happening. If so, every person leaving the workforce would be quickly replaced from the abundant supply of people who want jobs and are still looking for them. In other words, the hit would come to the unemployment rate with little or no reduction in jobs or job hours.

This is not an issue of labor supply. It is one of labor demand. And even if it wasn't, why is it better to have people that would have otherwise been in the workforce supporting themselves comfortably at home, with someone else footing their medical bills?

I think the ultimate problem is the changing attitude in America. In the fifties and sixties I can' imagine such an idea being thought of as a complete joke.

It reminds me of one of my friends who hires quite a few undocumenteds. He tells me they are the hardest working, most disciplined people around. Often when I see him he is with someone I assume is undocumented and they are smiling, laughing and seem to have a great relationship.

He tells me these people tell him there big worry is their kids. He said they say they expect everything to be handed to them and that they are owed something. He actually uses the term, they think the kids are becoming Americanized when it comes to being entitled. Of course I realize someone can point to kids that don't feel that way, but my guess is a good number of them do.

I am afraid that number is going to grow and grow and grow as it is coddled by the left and so called progressive thinkers. What happens when the realization money doesn't grow on tree's hits. There really aren't enough rich to take from to sustain this.

do you have some allergy to substantive analysis, for which the cure is hokey anecdotes?

I love your responses to me. Smart ass humor. At least what you consider humor. I get to show them around the office and hear, is everyone on that board a dumb ass?

            • The employer mandate to provide health coverage for employers with less than 100 employees has now been delayed until 2016.

              http://www.washingtonpost.com/nation...5fb_story.html

What a bunch of crap. Obama can just change any provision he wants and then the dems whine and complain when the Republicans want to change anything because you know "this this is already the law of the land."

Why can't the dems stand by their crappy product and take the lumps that come with selling a crappy product?

Does anyone in the White House have the cajones to stand by their signature piece of legislation? It's funny how the Dems wanted to push this thing through so quickly but now they want to take their time to delay its implementation. The whole thing is almost comical. I guess the employees of these medium sized companies aren't really in need of health care now
"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

In their defense, legislators, insurers and businesses only had 5 years notice that this was coming. An extra 2 years after the first 1 year delay only seems reasonable.

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

                          • The damage that Obamacare has done and will do can be remedied. Unfortunately, establishing this kind of precedent of eschewing bits and pieces of legislation on a whim will be more difficult to undo. Obama is cynical enough knowing that no one is going to go to court to force him to do his job and slap him down for something that is clearly unconstitutional. The Republicans aren't going to force the issue, they know Obamacare is a piece of shit and they don't want to force Obama to actually implement it. It's a political nonstarter. The Libs aren't going to force his hand either, it's apparent to even them that it's shitty. Which leaves the question: knowing what we know now with how it's causing the individual insurance market to crumble, why are we still bothering with this legislation at all at this point?

Also, Boehner stated within the past couple days that the House is holding off on immigration reform because they can't trust Obama to actually execute it in full. I wonder what would give him that idea?
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”
