It's getting difficult and slinking toward impossible to defend the Affordable Care Act. The latest blow to Democratic candidates, liberal activists, and naïve columnists like me came Monday from the White House, which announced yet another delay in the Obamacare implementation.
One of the grandest benefits of the enlightenment was the realization that our moral sense must be based on the welfare of living individuals, not on their immortal souls. Honest and passionate folks can strongly disagree regarding spiritual matters, so it's imperative that we not allow such considerations to infringe on the real happiness of real people.

      • I love how the Obamacare tax is now phrased as "shared responsibility payment" rather than a tax. I think the administration should embrace calling it a tax since it was Robert's distorted opinion claiming it was a tax that saved the ACA.

I like it. It has a nice Orwellian ring to it.

          • Hours Cut for 200 North Carolina Teachers Due to Obamacare

"Substitute teachers are trying to find ways to substitute their incomes after recent cuts," says one local anchor.

"Yeah, it's been a month since we first told you that the school districts would limit work days for subs to under 30 hours a week, all because of the affordable health care act. So what is the impact that it's having? One sub says she's now wondering how she will continue to survive and make ends meet without that income," the other anchor on set adds.

A school spokesman blames Obamacare and says, "The cost for us would be to provide health insurance for everyone, we're looking at just over a million dollars, is what I'm told, and that's the lowest cost to this school system."
            […]

The local reporter adds, "So the solution was to cut their hours. ... Well, the school district says the penalty for not paying health care insurance for those who work fulltime hours would be steep, more than 6 million dollars. Money the district, he says, can't afford."

Those unionized teachers should go on strike!

In our last meeting, our school board decided to do the same thing. We can't afford any other option.

I would guess that big reason for dumping on teachers is because crappy teachers get paid for being crappy and it is impossible to get rid of a crappy teacher just because they are crappy. I had some amazing teachers growing up but they were in the vast minority to the mediocre and horrible teachers.

If they are, I would say they are subsituting teachers for their real target, union leaders and perhaps administrators.

There must be plenty of teacher that are fans of their unions, most of the teachers (admittedly not a large number) I know are not fans of their unions.

They are also not fans on being judged on the class as a whole and yet forced to move the class at the pace of the slowest student. Often a student who can't speak English or one who should be in a special class but the parents refuse.

It's a shame that she is paid the same, or even less, than horrible teachers.

Yes, why do Obama and those Dems hate teachers?
