So obama was a radical when he was 22. So what. He has been president for four years; I think we can judge him on that pretty completely.

    EDIT:

interstingly, I just looked it up on wiki and they say the SDS didnt really exist when I was in college. This would have surprised the recruiters I met with.
You make a good point. I am pretty sure it was my college days I was encouraged to affiliate with the John Birch Society. Worse, when I transferred to BYU, people tried to get me to join "young men" claiming it was a fraternity. Seemed like a gay organization to me.

I would bet he does have more. He perfected this craft of the slow leak. They let a little bit out and let the punditocracy stew for a whil and then they release more. I wouldn't be surprised if that happened here.

That being said, I agree with '71 that absent some huge bombshell like him advocating violence against the government, the campaign shouldn't be about these things. There's enough to campaign against without going back to his college days.

What do you mean by 'run interference?' Media reps from both the right and the left talked about the conservative points ad nauseam. Do you think Obama considered it 'interference' when liberal pundits kept the Wright story circulating way longer than it otherwise might have? Considering the ugly right-wing attacks that dominated the news, I have to wonder what kind of stories were buried by the liberal media.

The right wing media did talk ad nauseam. If you think the commentary from the main stream was negative about on balance, it really isn't worth discussing it with you. You are ignorant on the subject.

What do you mean by MSM?

I didn't comment on whether or not the balance was positive or negative. I simply said that EVERYONE was talking about the conservative talking points. I would turn to Maddow and what was she talking about? Reverend Wright and Bill Ayers. I would turn to Olberman and get the same thing. Jon Stewart? Same thing. Everyone was talking about the Conservative talking points. They dominated every discussion, because they were RED MEAT, and got both bases fired up and interested in the news. Conservative thought is hardly pushed out of the public debate.

What I would be really curious to see is someone make the case that PBS news, on the whole, has a political slant to one side or the other. They remain my personal standard by which I judge the quality/bias of any other news organization.

YOU know, you are right about PBS. I have often come up blank for the equivalent of Fox on the right. I think it is PBS.

The rest of them fall just left of PBS as in CNN to way, way, way left as in the NBC group sans CNBC.

I won't push you on it if you aren't up to answering, but I still don't know what you mean by MSM and 'run interference.' Fox is the most popular news network on cable, and they have the most watched news programming in the US. Everyone, including the liberal news outlets, talks about the the items that Fox presents as the news. There may be MORE liberal outlets than conservative ones, but I would not venture to guess whether all of the liberal outlets combined enjoy more eyes and ears than Fox on its own. We live in a country that has become progressively more conservative in the last thirty years. It is truly an age of conservative ascendency. Someone like Bill O' goes on about his success and ratings, but then turns around and acts as if the MAIN stream media is fubar. I have never seen so much cake being had and eaten at the same time. It is magic conservative cake, like loaves and fishes, that keeps giving and giving and giving...

I don't know if this answers your question at all but if you haven't seen of heard this it is very interesting. http://www.freakonomics.com/2012/02/...is-your-media/

Most media is biased to the left. Fox news falls to the right and not near as much as everyone else is left.

The research cited there has the WSJ being the MOST liberal of any media outlet, and Drudge is shown to have a significant liberal bias. To me that suggests there is something wrong with the measuring tools they are using.

His policies lablel him to the left far more than the "much anticipated" mind blowing tape. I am yawning. His policies are enough for me to be upset.

If Reverend Wright and Ayers didn't sink him last time I think the righties should take a hint. Go after him on his policies not his old associations and Michelle's vacations.

I hope someone doesn't pull out an old tape where Romney as ZL is instructing the elders not to teach black people.
Obama's policies are the policies of Wright, Ayers, Alinsky, etc.

True, I saw that after I posted. The podcast really didn't get into that, but it was interesting.
