Not affirmation really. It is true that I don't like Tex's position at all. I do know many active members here and elsewhere that disagree strongly with Tex's feelings on the matter. However, I am not sure CUF represents the majority of Mormon sentiment and I think Tex's and to a small degree Jacob's arguments need a voice here. That is all I am saying, and I am sure you agree.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostInteresting how Tex is always so popular among the apostates (SU has always loved him). I am sure it is nice to have someone like that to point to for affirmation.
Having them post their thoughts allows their message to continue to get vetted which IMHO is a good thing. I personally believe, that the more this issue is publicly discussed, the more foolish the anti-gay marriage argument appears. I don't think Tex or Jacob will ever be convinced, but there are people who read these type of discussions who might be influenced. Honestly, I don't feel the need to convince Tex that he is wrong with respect to this topic anymore, besides we are both probably beyond convincing at this point.Dyslexics are teople poo...

Not sure where you get this. There are significant legal benefits to people being married, including tax and insurance benefits, which are not available to domestic partnerships.Originally posted by Jacob View PostNothing should exclude them from that good institution. But that's not what we are talking about, we are talking about changing the good institution to include them, even though there is no significant legal benefits to them of their inclusion. It's all about social acceptance and the meaning of a word. I haven't seen a good argument for changing the institution. I haven't seen a good argument as to why the government ought to be involved in their increased social acceptance or moral approbation. If we disagree on something, it's because you're wrong.
