Romney for POTUS: The thread that makes the case and gives neutrality the finger

People were complaining about the computation of these numbers back in 2008 when Bush was still president and the recession was in full swing. I think tinkering could occur with the numbers relating to people that aren't looking for work -- but I don't think that's happening. I don't think Obama is exerting influence on the BLS. And what's good for the goose is good for the gander, because once people that have given up instead start looking for jobs again, that unemployment number is going to shoot up. 230k jobs is not enough to really draw the unemployment down when all factors are considered (those presently unemployed, those that have given up and those that are underemployed).Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

This thread cld easily be retitled "pull your heads out of your effing arses, Republicans."
Here's the deal: I hear a lot of carping (including among my own family) about Mitt's lack of a "core philosophy."
Here's all the "core philosophy" anyone shld care about right now:
Romney has been a budget-balancing deficit hawk his entire life. He's rescued major entities from debt in three impressive instances. First when he took over Bain & Company in 1991, second as the head of the Olympics and third as gov of MA. In each of those phases he took a symbolic $1 salary and showed a willingness to go down to the nitty gritty to eliminate deficits - (things right down to making employees pay for individual slices of pizzas that were ordered in for staff at the SLC Olympics).... and he's lived his personal life, by all accts, with similar frugality.
That's a core philosophy that America needs right now. Hell, in the near future it's the ONLY core philosophy we shld care about.
Mitt's been terrible about making this argument which should have been his ENTIRE argument all along. But Republicans are worse for not doing enough homework to understand that this is who he is and this is why he is ideally suited to this American moment.
But ***k it - let's elect the guy who hates gays, loves earmarks, wants to outlaw "sodomy" and has plans to lecture us all on birth control.Ute-ī sunt fīmī differtī
It can't all be wedding cake.

Agree, Mitt needs to hit this drum from now until November. Santorum was an big earmarker. Even if the economy shows some signs of life before the election that won't change the massive deficits or check the growth of government. Forget everything else because it is a sideshow. Start quoting per capita government debt, pick a few egregious examples of government waste under Santorum/Obama, have a few examples of government spending/programs that will be cut. Make every stump speech about eliminating the deficit and getting spending under control.Originally posted by oxcoug View PostHere's the deal: I hear a lot of carping (including among my own family) about Mitt's lack of a "core philosophy."

Another thing Mitt should focus on is regulation. The Economist has an excellent article on the subject.
At 848 pages, it is 23 times longer than Glass-Steagall, the reform that followed the Wall Street crash of 1929. Worse, every other page demands that regulators fill in further detail. Some of these clarifications are hundreds of pages long...
Those who have struggle to make sense of it, not least because so much detail has yet to be filled in: of the 400 rules it mandates, only 93 have been finalised. So financial firms in America must prepare to comply with a law that is partly unintelligible and partly unknowable.Every hour spent treating a patient in America creates at least 30 minutes of paperwork, and often a whole hour. Next year the number of federally mandated categories of illness and injury for which hospitals may claim reimbursement will rise from 18,000 to 140,000. There are nine codes relating to injuries caused by parrots, and three relating to burns from flaming water-skis.A study for the Small Business Administration, a government body, found that regulations in general add $10,585 in costs per employee. It’s a wonder the jobless rate isn’t even higher than it is.

Saddest thread ever. There's no such thing as luck, only drunken invincibility. Make it happen.
Tila Tequila and Juggalos, America’s saddest punchline since the South.

No kidding. The natives are even turning on TJ. Did you know he made Jimmer sign a contract to commit himself to playing in the NBA? He also took Jimmer to play in prison to toughen him up. That's a good brother for you.Originally posted by DU Ute View PostThe Jimmer thread is getting pretty sad as well.

Obama is entirely beatable.
"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

How many of these stories are out there?
Let the cat out of the bag, Romney team
Mitt is like some kind of mondern-day super-hero.Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!
For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.
Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."
