  • Veterans' Day 2011

It's Veterans' Day. Also 11-11-11, which adds a certain coolness to the day. Here's a nice video:

Well said. To those here, I appreciate your service. I will forever be grateful for what our servicemen and women have done to preserve our liberties.

This morning I had my kids watch a similar video and explained to them what Veterans Day was about. I think its important for them and myself, to be reminded of the sacrifices that have been made to ensure our freedoms.

I had an uncle who wouldn't watch R rated movies but he insisted his children (they were older) watch Saving Private Ryan so they would better understand and appreciate what good men and women have been through for us.

Thank you so much to all the veterans out there.

I did my good turn daily for a vet...I saved his life today. It was actually pretty darn cool to be able to do such a thing on this day.

Hey if you hadn't been there any other resident would have done exactly the same thing you did, right?

Also, it's not called a "good turn" if it's your paid job and your responsibility.

Let me know when you murder your next victim.
At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

Our house is not particularly political house, we talk about current events and try to keep our kids educated on what is going on and why. I was really impressed with my oldest, HFN Jr who is 9, yesterday he woke up and wanted us to go to the veterans memorial at the park and put flowers on it. Yesterday afternoon I took him to the flower shop and let him pick out a bouquet and then the fam went to the park and spent a few minutes at the memorial.

It was impressive to me how many people from our small county died protecting the ideas of freedom and democracy, especially in WWII. To anyone here that served the country thank you for your selfless sacrifice.

You are a day late with this expression of gratitude, mister. If it really meant that much to you, you'd have posted this yesterday.

Well, that didn't come out like I meant.

I felt honored to be able to give this WWII vet some more time on this earth, the least I could do in comparison to his sacrifice.

                              Pyrenees hikers remember WWII escapees

                              http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-15690262

Every year, hikers trek the "Chemin de la Liberte" in the Pyrenees, to commemorate the 800 or so Allied airmen and Jewish refugees who risked their lives on a 60km (40 miles) route escaping Nazi-occupied Europe during World War II.
I've put this on my bucket list. It's in my favorite region of France and it sounds like a great adventure.
