The article Moliere linked to clearly advocated such.
It's time for us to take an active role in the GOP nomination process. That's right, it's time for those of us who live in open primary and caucus states—Michigan, North Dakota, Vermont and Tennessee in the next three weeks—to head out and cast a vote for Rick Santorum.

Republican turnout has sucked, and appears to be getting worse by the contest. Unlike the 2008 Democratic primaries, which helped President Barack Obama and the Democrats to build a national organization, the GOP is an organizational disaster, with waning voter interest. That means that it takes fewer votes to have an impact than if Republican turnout was maxed out.

Several of the contests have produced razor-thin margins of victory. Rick Santorum won Iowa by 34 votes, Mitt Romney "won" Maine by 194 votes. It won't take many of us to swing contests the way we want them to swing.

Romney Supporter: Mitt Could Win By Losing
                Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

Michigan has 30 delegates -- that's less than 3% of the total needed to win. The delegate tally from Michigan is almost immaterial compared to the momentum needed from a overall Michigan win to succeed on March 6.

I think Romney is in serious trouble if he doesn't win in Michigan. He had enough time after the fiasco in Colorado, Minnesota and Missouri to right the ship before Michigan, he won't have enough time between February 28 and March 6.

With that said, Santorum will simply not be able to get enough delegates to win the nomination before the convention. California, I believe, is like Michigan in that each congressional district gets a certain number of delegates and it's a winner take all within each district. Romney should win handily in nearly every California district. Romney should also sweep the Northeast (with the exception of Pennsylvania) and the rest of the Western states. The rest remainder of the country simply won't give Santorum enough delegates especially when considering that Fat Dwight Shrute is still in the race and many of the Southern Primaries are proportional.

Truth be told, I'm hoping for all of it to boil down to Utah which had the apparent foresight to schedule its primary dead last. It would be hilarious to see Santorum try to scrap with Romney for Utah votes the final couple weeks and then watch the Mormons tear the heart out of the Evangelicals with the inevitable 90% to 10% victory for Romney.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

Minor correction: Michigan has 30 delegates, but they are awarded proportionally. Tomorrow, nobody will likely get more than 17--which is 1.4% of total delegates needed for nomination.

By contrast, Arizona has 29 delegates up for grabs as winner-take-all, and Romney gets them all.

Worst case scenario for Romney tomorrow is he wins 41 delegates to Santorum's 16 or so.

IIRC correctly, this is the kind of scenario that will play out across the country. Many of the primaries that favor Santorum are proportional while those that favor Romney are not. And good luck getting Fat Chekhov out of the race which would favor Santorum more than Romney.

And as Romney continues to get a majority of the delegates, the media will continue to focus on "expectations" and "winners and losers." Romney and Santorum tied in Iowa in votes and in delegates, but Santorum "won" for example.

                              • I was laughing at the Chekhov part.
His originality consists in an early use of the stream-of-consciousness technique, later adopted by James Joyce and other modernists, combined with a disavowal of the moral finality of traditional story structure. He made no apologies for the difficulties this posed to readers, insisting that the role of an artist was to ask questions, not to answer them.
