I don't understand this at all, and yet it sounds like a great line so I'll support it. Also, I feel like I'm in a unique position to voice my opinion on this since I am the Tanners' closest relative on this board.

            I don't get it either.

I think SU is saying that Newt is attacking Washington/liberalism, a valid and deserving target, for the wrong reasons, or perhaps is the wrong messenger to carry a valid message. SU, I suspect, sees the Tanners the same way in terms of their attacks on the church: right target, wrong message or messengers.

              You're welcome.

I'm astonished. Your mind thinks more like an apostate than many on this baord....

That's interesting, and I suspect you're right (SU, can I get a ruling here?). When I was a kid, and visiting our very orthodox maternal grandpa (Sandra Tanner's grandpa as well), I would often see some really cheesy looking "Jesus Loves You" literature on his living room table. I asked my mom what was up with that, since it definitely wasn't LDS work product. She said it was stuff from my cousin Sandra, who didn't believe in the Church anymore and was always sending Grandpa from her new belief system. I distinctly remember thinking that if I left the Church, it certainly wouldn't be to switch to that hackneyed crap. I think even SU would have agreed with me.

I thought he just meant he was getting apostates to rally around and cheer on an active Mormon.

LA stated it very well. At a gut level, it's about someone who shares some of your outlook giving you the heebie geebies because of their distasteful personal style, low integrity level, or intellectual shortcomings or dishonesty.

I'm pretty confident that this issue won't come up beyond the blogosphere because a politician would look like a complete fool asking Mitt about his underwear.

That being said, i wonder why his style consultant (assuming he has one) didn't advise him to go crew neck. The scoop has always looked awful and ridiculous under a white shirt.
