Jon Stewart is a huge a-hole. The thought of him providing a "public service" is laughable. Stewart is a comedian who likes to occasionally take himself far to seriously and act like a newsman. Stewart is just as prone as any other talking head to stumping for a political party or politicizing topics for his own benefit.

I imagine he gets away with being a crossover newsman/comedian/"public servant" because anytime anyone attempts to call him on his hypocrisy Stewart can always hide behind the hat of comedian.

Stewart is the ultimate celebrity with a soap box.

Stewart is in the very favorable position of being able to say whatever he wants while being able to deflect any criticism by reminding people that he's a comedian and therefore has no journalistic responsibilities. While I recognize that this makes his job much, much easier than that of the average journalist, it does seem quite obvious that Stewart often asks questions and covers stories that other journalists refuse to. I imagine his status as a comedian even encourages this behavior. I therefore consider him to be a valuable addition to the national discourse. It is a shame that so few real journalists are willing to point out the flaws of the media in a similar way.
