Social media is wielding a ton of power with little/no accountability. It's become a parallel "accountability system" of its own, beyond the Puritans' wildest dreams.

Our media (social and otherwise) sucks--not in the way Trump thinks it does--but the media is currently damaging democracy.

Hate of "the other" is not something we can fix; it's probably innate. Our best shot at limiting it is to have accountable institutions and a population that is invested in their veracity. In short, we need to realize the limits of human nature and advancement and account for them in a way that promotes everyone's welfare.

Our elected representatives who could do something about the above are bought and paid for and/or are captives to ideological extremists.
    100 percent B.S.

Have you studied 1968? Similar but much worse. Went on for months. Curfews extended for months. Cities in flames. Bobby Kennedy and MLK assassinated. The democratic convention exploded in anarchy and riots. There was no Internet.

This is hardly all about the death of George Floyd. These riots have now extended to Europe.

This reaction is much worse because of the shutdowns. It was like lighting a match amid gas fumes. The people, especially the poor, are at the end of their rope. They’ve had it.

So count the death and destruction caused by these riots as part of the cost of this shutdown. Anarchy in reaction to the shutdown was totally predictable. History will be about as kind to the shutdown as it is to the Treaty of Versailles.

    • Also, if you want Donald Trump to be reelected, keep it up anarchists. This plays into his hands, as did the events of 1968 play into Nixon’s.

      • A tip for CSers: you can avoid SU’s wrath on any future post if you just include a passing reference to the shutdown. It doesn’t matter how tangential it is, just work it in somehow.

Ok, maybe we are the same person. Social media both catalyzes and magnifies status signalling--it's mostly ideological noise.

I saw this the other day and couldn't stop laughing. I can't think of a more perfect description of our current iteration of SU. SiEQ would be wise to ponder this before responding to him.

I wonder if the catifa can be considered part of the antifa?

                  • Thanks to the lefty antifa folks traveling across state lines Frank's favorite attorney general will be calling in the feds to kick some butts and take names...

In many places, it appears the violence is planned, organized, and driven by anarchistic and far left extremists, using Antifa-like tactics, many of whom travel from out of state to promote the violence.

We must have law and order on our streets and in our communities, and it is the responsibility of the local and state leadership, in the first instance, to halt this violence. The Department of Justice (including the FBI, Marshals, ATF, and DEA), and all of our 93 U.S. Attorneys across the country, will support these local efforts and take all action necessary to enforce federal law.

In that regard, it is a federal crime to cross state lines or to use interstate facilities to incite or participate in violent rioting. We will enforce these laws.

The Feds know how to handle these situations!

LOL... Drumpf is late to the party again. The Obama administration already classified these lefty antifa cowards as "domestic terrorist":

FBI, Homeland Security warn of more ‘antifa’ attacks
Confidential documents call the anarchists that seek to counter white supremacists ‘domestic terrorists.’
                        [...]
Federal authorities have been warning state and local officials since early 2016 that leftist extremists known as “antifa” had become increasingly confrontational and dangerous, so much so that the Department of Homeland Security formally classified their activities as “domestic terrorist violence,” according to interviews and confidential law enforcement documents obtained by POLITICO.

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

Meanwhile, a couple of armed men stood at one street corner, saying they were protecting protesters. At least one of these men was wearing a Hawaiian shirt, an outfit commonly associated with the far-right Boogaloo movement.
I think most people that wear Hawaiian shirts would be surprised that doing so is "commonly" associated with the Boogaloo movement. I've definitely never heard of the Boogaloo movement until today so the Hawaiian shirt association seems pretty uncommon to me.

I'm not worried. I've never been a Hawaiian shirt guy.
