    Having sex on the moon.

I am watching morning Joe while getting ready for work this morning and they are talking to this author and movie maker. He was talking about his latest book.

It is about this genius type kid who worked for NASA and stole the moon rocks. They were in this huge safe. He did it so he could have sex on the rocks and thus "sex on the moon".

In talking about the guy, the author mentioned he was kicked out of the family home as a youngster because the parents found out he had "pre-marital" sex. The author says, the family was mormon and you know they are pretty fundamentalist in their beliefs.

I will probably watch the movie when it comes out. Are any of you intellectuals friends with this guy?

It may be time we looked at how we view sex as a group.

He swiped the safe and somehow got the safe off the NASA complex. This was one big safe too. I didn't listen closely so I don't know if he spread them out at his apartment or some nice countryside spot. I guess he said it wasn't all that comfortable.

Hopefully from a 1st-person perspective. Everything else would be porn.

I remember this story. Thad Roberts was a student at the U, married, and an RM. I believe he also stole some dinosaur bones from the MNH at the U. He obviously made two very stupid mistakes, and he did his time in prison to pay for his crimes.

While there he generated an elegant, and many people call brilliant, 11-dimensional geometric theorem. Basically he posited that the universe has a fractal structure. This is a theory that is gaining significant traction in the scientific community. The guy was a) exceptionally brilliant, and b) made a pair of big mistakes.

Also, here is an interesting statement from one of his co-conspirators, the guy who sent the emails fishing for a buyer - and received 5 yrs 10 months for it (from LA Times, June 6, 2004): http://www.latimes.com/la-tm-moonroc...0,888530.story

McWhorter had lost a lot, including his sister, Kelen, in a car crash, and later his family. "I complicated my life by becoming eccentrically involved in [the Mormon Church], to the point where I isolated my wife and child," he says. "Y2K was coming, and I was getting ready with all this food storage. The church didn't care for my ideas. They did their best to make my wife scared of me."
Read the LA Times story, and it makes more sense.

Without gravity...that would be quite a feat!

An 'accomplishment' from Mr. Roberts (SU et al would be prod):

Overcome a blinding conviction: Most significantly on Valentine’s Day 1999 – stopped being Mormon, stopped judging others and myself, and started wearing real underware.

FYI, his geometry theorem attempts to combine the theories of General Relativity with Quantum Mechanics into one single equation (Einstein seemed to hint at this possibility but nobody has as yet tied them all together).

I have often thought there is a misinterpretation there. I think the word should be "intelligent" instead of "rich".

And in reading more about him, I now remember he was my physics lab TA for a couple of labs when I was at the U. I thought his name sounded familiar!

That would be a convenient interpretation. Is that because seemingly "intelligent" people are more disposed to rely on their own knowledge and senses than on faith?

Dude was 'crazy smart' (emphasis on 'crazy'). And apparently he has yet to discover the spell check despite being "intelligent". Here is his CV: http://einsteinsintuition.com/who-is...s/things-done/

Why would you use the word "seemingly". Intelligent people are intelligent, they aren't "seemingly" intelligent.

Now to your question. I think intelligent people are more prone to look for reasons and things that make "sense", rather than trusting what someone else tells them..

That is not to say there aren't very intelligent people who have faith, since we know there are highly intelligent people who are members of all faiths.
