    Clearly you've never been married.

Good point. And I, in turn, will be making mental note of those people who go to the temple, yet are not fully in support of the Church's stance against anti-illegal immigration legislation.

I've been mentally noting those who go into debt for things other than an education or a modest home for several years now.

Rome fell because people were more interested in when and were the gladiatorial bouts would be on display than the corruption and lies in their own government.

Speaking of which, any updates on the NFL lockout?

You know, I was in Rome a couple of summers ago. You know what else they had? Water fountains. Water fountains EVERYWHERE. We better get on that. I was walking around downtown Provo just the other day and RIGHT there on the corner I saw one. Just sittin out there...like it was NORMAL!!! I'm telling you, guys, if we don't act fast, MORE of these...."water fountains" are going to pop up around us, and then boom; it's all over.
I'm using Rome more as a metaphor. You literalists need to expand your minds a little.

The interesting question to me is the one Cardiac raised: some view it as social progression, others as social decay. If you think it's a part of social decay, then its effects won't come quickly or soon, but a different society will emerge slowly, coupled with other changes, until eventually the foundation necessary for society's survival will be gone.

someone please wake me up when society crumbles. that is going to be an awkward day for homosexuals, blacks and whites that have intermingled, blacks in general, women that work, and a bevy of other social deviants that, at one point in time or another, were blamed for one thing or another.
                        Fitter. Happier. More Productive.

Also, since same sex marriage became legal in Massachusetts on May 17, 2004, Boston has enjoyed the following:

Patriots, 2005 Super Bowl champs (2004 season)
Red Sox, 2007 World Series champs
                          Celtics, 2008 NBA Finals champs
                          Bruins, 2011 Stanley Cup champs

Rome is used ad nauseum by the anti gay marriage crowd as justification for their position. I would have picked another metaphor.
