So Cain is going to be a populist then. I think that's a mistake, as it will group him with Bachman and Pajlin. He should try to be the more conservative fiscal fix it guy, as a contrast to Romney.

I read an analysis on that. Basically that plan increases the annal budget deficit by ~$1.3 billion, plus DEMOLISHING the household budgets of people in the lower brackets (who don't pay any federal income tax, but pay FICA/Sales/Property/Excise taxes).

Our total sales tax would go up to nearly 18% on every item, and IIRC it includes food.

He worked for Pillsbury. He first was in charge of the 400+ Burger Kings in the Philly area and took them from huge money pits to some of the best performing stores in the chain in ~3 years. Then he was put in charge of Godfather's, and did great work there as well. Ironically Bain Capital (with a few other groups) later bought Burger King.

He is quite similar to Mitt Romney in his business successes, with several glaring exceptions. First, he is the great-grandson of slaves. He grew up very poor on a farm in a segregated Georgia. He earned a math degree and a MS in computer science. He pulled himself up by his bootstraps, and was responsible for turning around companies from the inside.

Romney grew up with a silver spoon in his mouth, literally. He was the son of a governor, presidential candidate, and auto exec from Michigan. He went to the best schools growing up including Harvard for his grad degree. He also went to BYU. He founded Bain Capital with several outstanding businessmen (most notably Josh Bekenstein They had a reputation in the Boston area as corporate raiders who would liquidate companies (somewhat like Richard Gere in Pretty Woman), but as a team they also had great successes turning around many big companies. I guarantee this corporate raider history will come up in the General to attempt to paint Romney as somebody who has no care for the 'little guy'. (this criticism was popular when he was Gov).

Frankly I would be interested in a Romney/Cain tandem. But I also realize that we don't need an outsider without any true government experience. Business experience doesn't necessarily transfer well to government.

I don't think you know what "literally" means. I think the success of both Romney and Cain is the exception, rather than the rule, for people that come from the backgrounds of both.
