For what it's worth, my wife and I are in Charleston and had a brief conversation with a couple from Georgia this morning. They are white and middle aged, and said Newt was their guy until he started his Bain bashing. Since then they switched to Romney because Newt "showed his colors as a spoiled rotten little kid." Apparently not everyone has switched back to Newt's ship yet.

Maybe. Then again, he looks good in Florida and the others have no money. There are 10 TV markets in Florida; no one can win there without lots of money. He should win Nevada, Michigan, Minnesota, Maine, Colorado and Arizona. Then Super Tuesday is next. Who knows how that will go? So he may just be in for a long slog. I read somewhere that the hard-core conservatives want a brokered convention or at least one like 1976 that wasn't decided beforehand.Originally posted by Maximus View PostMan if mitt loses sc he could lose it all especially when newt owns the debates.“There is a great deal of difference in believing something still, and believing it again.”

doubtful, but it does give Obama a shorter election period and keeps most of his campaign funds on the sideline until a nominee is declared or imminent.Originally posted by Maximus View Postthe longer it goes the more ammo Obama will have vs whomever is the nominee.Dio perdona tante cose per un’opera di misericordia

I just think these debates provide more and more soundbites and attack ideas for Obama to use.Originally posted by pellegrino View Postdoubtful, but it does give Obama a shorter election period and keeps most of his campaign funds on the sideline until a nominee is declared or imminent.

Rick Santorum-backing pastor plays the 'Mormon cult' cardOriginally posted by LA Ute View PostFrom Vanderbilt University:
I don't think Mormons should whine about the bias against them among Southern Republican evangelicals, but it is a fact of political life. Just part of the landscape.
"I know there have been many people who said they'd hold their nose and vote for Romney if he gets the nomination, but I'm not [one of them], I won't vote for him," Rev. Huey Mills, head of the South Carolina Association of Christian Schools, told The Hill blog site.
Mills added that Mormonism "is a cult, most definitely."
--------------------------------
But Mills takes his concerns about Romney further, complaining that the front-running candidate isn't homophobic enough.
"In obedience to the Judeo-Christian Scriptures, most South Carolinans and I have a sane and healthy homophobia, while Mitt Romney has a very bad case of homophilia," said Mills in a joint statement with fellow pastor, Rev. Ray Moore, according to The Hill. "Romney's liberal support for homosexuality is not only at doctrinal odds with traditional Judaism and Christianity, it's even at odds with latter-day cults like Islam and Mormonism."Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!
For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.
Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

I'm still bothered by the lack of concern over Newt's ethics violations. How is his run for president no different than if Richard Nixon ran again after being impeached? I know it's a simple comparison but it seems to work...for me.
Flabbergasting!

The Tea Party is backing Newt. SC going for Newt is akin to the Tea Party pushing Crazy Eyes Angle and Christine O'Donnell to their respective nominations. They want to extract their pound of flesh more than they want to actually win which is utter foolishness.Originally posted by Moliere View PostI'm still bothered by the lack of concern over Newt's ethics violations. John Hinderaker on Powerlineblog wrote last night that two things are abundantly clear right now: 1). Barack Obama is a terrible President and a vulnerable incumbent; and 2) Newt Gingrich will never be president of the United States.Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

If you are bothered by ethics violations then you should vote for Ron Paul. Wow... by the end of South Carolina, Mitt might only have won the LEAST populated and LEAST strategically significant of the three primaries. Newt is unelectable, and would be an absolute gift to Obama. GOP voters are just not thinking about what three months of shining a spotlight on all of Newt's dirt is going to do to his popularity. He will be crushed.

Mitt is going to blast Newt with negative ads in Florida and take that primary and get some momentum. This is definitely going to drag on for a while but I still think Mitt gets the nomination in the end.Originally posted by RobinFinderson View PostWow... by the end of South Carolina, Mitt might only have won the LEAST populated and LEAST strategically significant of the three primaries.
