What do you mean by the natural gas plants not handling the cold weather? I'm also not sure what you mean by wind saving our bacon. If we didn't have the wind, we'd just build more plants.

When certain NG plants shut down or can't restart during cold winter months, wind generated electricity has been able to fill the gap to reduce the need for brownouts.Originally posted by Moliere View PostWhat do you mean by the natural gas plants not handling the cold weather? Crude spot price is over $58
There's a furniture store in twin that is offering a "85 and it's free" promotion. If you buy $7k worth of furniture and crude hits $85 by the end of the year you get all your money refunded.
I doubt we get anywhere close to $85, but at least things are looking up for the industry."Discipleship is not a spectator sport. What to do with all that CO2 and renewable energy... Make (e)Diesel:

http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/audi-create...-water-1498524German car manufacturer Audi says it has created the "fuel of the future" made solely from water, carbon dioxide and renewable sources.
The synthetic "e-diesel" was made following a commissioning phase of just four months at a plant in Dresden, Germany.
Unlike regular diesel, the clear fuel does not contain any sulphur or fossil oil, while it has an overall energy efficiency of around 70%.
Germany's federal minister of education and research, Dr Johanna Wanka, said she has already used the fuel in her Audi A8, while the company hopes the Dresden factory, operated by clean tech company Sunfire, will produce 160 litres of it every day in the coming months.
"This synthetic diesel, made using CO2, is a huge success for our sustainability research," Wanka said. "If we can make widespread use of CO2 as a raw material, we will make a crucial contribution to climate protection and the efficient use of resources, and put the fundamentals of the 'green economy' in place."

Interesting. For non-engineers and for clarity, what does 70% energy efficiency mean? Only 30% of the energy value of the electricity is lost in the process? Or would it factor in all energy expended in the creation process (i.e. the energy expended to gather, process, compress the CO2 and other use of energy)?Originally posted by Uncle Ted View PostWhat to do with all that CO2 and renewable energy... That means you should maybe still drive that Nissan Leaf golf cart for now because you waste less energy charging its batteries. In Texas, we have lots of that wind electricity to "burn" in our eDiesel powered F-350s.Originally posted by Green Monstah View PostInteresting. Ouch. Sorry to hear that. Water restrictions go into effect today for our local water district. 36% reduction from 2013 usage. Outside irrigation only 3 days per week, Watering only between midnight and 7am. No wasted water on driveways or sidewalks. Limiting indoor water use to no more than about 55 gallons per person per day(although that one is more of a suggestion). Plenty of lawns have already been killed off, and a number of people are installing drought -resistant yards.
In short, our neighborhoods are becoming ugly like those in Reno and Vegas now.
