The man has myriad obstacles to overcome. The first being his own party.

"My Gawd, Martha, that TED KENNEDY standing behind him!"
If republicans are genuinely upset by that clip. (I know many would be) I really need to change my party affiliation. (that may ultimately be what I do) I found the piece somewhat persuasive as to why he could potentially be a good president.

It's not a charisma problem, it's a connecting problem. Kind of hard to define.

Ironic, isn't it? Because I would feel the same way if he were not trying to distance himself from the program today.

The GOP has put him in a tight spot. Remember they hung Kerry with the "he was for it before he was against it" line. Now nobody can change a position based on new information and not be pilloried for it by the other side.

Same thing is happening to the prez right now on the debt ceiling.

Look every politician does it to some extent - but few take it to the level of caricature that Mitt has reached. It isn't just talking out of both sides of the mouth, it's making calculated moves that are so transparently cynical that my eyes roll back all the way to my ass.

Joining the NRA in 2006 is the classic example. How many of his HBS buddies were advising him on that move?

I actually like him in spite of it and think he's the most capable candidate in the field now and was the most capable in 2008. But his hard feint to seize the right rail of social conservatism was so ill-advised it almost turns my stomach - largely because I think he blew an opportunity.

He's the political version of Urban Meyer (i mean that in all sincerity) in that respect. People just don't connect with him on a general level, but those who have worked closely with or for him can't speak highly enough about him.

The best part about Romney is how good he is going to make Huntsman look.

Huntsman is a no brainer candidate and will be the front runner if he chooses to run.

Its been said here in the past that Romney is BYU and Huntsman is the University of Utah.

And I kinda like that statement.

Good analogy but Huntsman is really more Wharton

You meant the reverse, right? I suppose we don't have much to go on, but Utahns, who are very familiar with both, prefer Romney by a landslide.

No Huntsman is a tailor made candidate for a centrist nation.

Romney probably believes we need him, whereas a true leader feels he owes it to the nation to give it a try.

Huntsman is a total tool. If he's a "centrist" it's just because he doesn't actually believe anything. I was there - somewhat regrettably - when he gave his fawning, pawing introduction of Sarah Palin at the 2008 convention and watched as he (pathetically) tried to start a "Sar-ah! Sar-ah!" chant there. Like many alleged centrists he simply believes in his own power and entitlement. But there's a better reason to laugh him off the campaign - that he actually started his exploration with this piece of doggerel quasi-poetry.

It's like he hired a sophomore in some shitty English Lit program to write this for him.

When it comes to lack of principle or a compelling presidential raison d'etre Huntsman is far worse than Romney.

What happened to common goals? To calm? To respect?
What happened to actual, lasting solutions to problems?

When were they replaced with anger?
Slammed fists. Divisive words. Winning at any cost?

                                Honor by power?
                                Prepared by preening?

What happened? We live the result.
