    Utah, Beer and Guns

Where is the disconnect up on Capitol hill?

    http://www.ksl.com/?nid=148&sid=14437377

Semi-automatic guns are fine because the government shouldn't intervene and because people should be personally responsible and guns don't hurt people. People do.

Yet, alcohol has to be micro-managed. Apparently, the same populace that is responsible enough to carry semi-automatic handguns...NAY! Celebrate semi-automatic handguns by making them the state gun! ... is NOT responsible enough to purchase and make reasonable choices about taking a substance into their body. No. WHen it comes to alcohol, cigarettes and sex, the government is fine to crawl right up your ass and set up camp in your sigmoid colon to make sure you are doing it by THEIR own personal rules.

    Makes PERFECT sense.

If you have to eat in order to drink alcohol in Utah, shouldn't you also have to take a valium before strapping on the ol' Browning? Same logic...

Utah's legislature isn't very libertarian. They aren't small government either.

        They are not "conservatives".

They are into social engineering, babysitting, and legislting morality.

In my view, modern day conservatism outwardly espouses what was classic liberalism: increased personal liberties, free markets and less government involvement in an individual's lives.

However, modern Republicans are now some weird mix of socially conservative moral legislators, big government, less tax....I don't even really think they know as a group.

The main thing driving both parties is opposing the other party. Pretty crappy stuff.

It's as if the "conservative" tag really only means that you are socially conservtive and that's about it.

two heads of the same coin...

I remember Jesse Ventura, the former governor of Minnesota saying something about politics in America today being exactly the same as pro wrestling. That in front of the camera the democrats and republicans put on this show like they all hate each other but behind closed doors they're all friends attending the same parties and working for the same people. Something like that. I believe that a little more every day.

Well...guns and alcholol don't mix very well.

So I suppose if you are going to celebrate guns and have a state semi-auto handgun, then you have to make alcohol difficult to get ahold of so that drunk people don't shoot stuff that shouldn't be shot.

This legislature makes PERFECT sense to me. It's plain logic.

I get that the state legislature wanted to honor Browning, a pioneer in his field. I don't care that they chose the 1911, a handgun, to do so - it is probably his most celebrated firearm.

I would love to have someone do the research to find a famous early Utah resident who did made beer and propose a state beverage. I think I would get a pretty good chuckle out of the reaction.

Do we have a state shotgun or rifle yet?

If they are going to use a semi-auto pistol (1911) and rifle (BAR), don't you think they should be somewhat consistent at use the Auto 5 or the Gold?

I think we should include a machine gun - my favorite in the Ma Duece, the M-2 .50 cal

As far a pistols go - I couldn't hit the broad side of a barn with the 1911

I may be small, but I'm slow.

And yet I get flamed every time I point out that Utah is effing weird.

Is it okay if I just tell everyone that you're from California? That will make you much less appealing.
