American Car Companies giving out Bonuses

According to this article a lot of my neighbors will be getting some extra $$.

Some people (GM) were talking about it at church and they were expecting about 20% of their base salaries.

Yeah, buy back my stock or send me the dividend.
        Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

A 20% bonus is not unreasonable at a large corporation (althought I wish we had those where I worked). It's typically part of the compensation package that is offered to management. It's been a good year for them so I see no reason why they can't pay bonuses. I'm sure the money they owe the government has a maturity date and they are planning on paying it back when it's required.

We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

20%? Put me in the "sounds completely reasonable" category.

The issue is that 2011 is the year of companies trying to retain all of their employees that have been pissed off for two years. Now that the economy is limping out of the recession, people that are unhappy will jump ship. GM and Chrysler know that if they are going to pay back the taxpayers they are going to need their best people to stay once their competitors start hiring again.

I would agree with that except the market here in michigan sucks. Anyone who would leave would take a massive hit on their house along with having to find a new job.

All I have to say is I would love a 20% bonus right now. Off the top of my head I can think of five or six different (responsible) ways to use that money.

                    What's a bonus?

It's the only aspect of corporations that hasn't infiltrated academic institutions. Unfortunately for us, I don't think it ever will.

When I worked full-time for BYU I got a turkey every year for a bonus. That was about 20% of what I was being paid at the time.
