Most of his Utah County constituents would rather vote for an ex-BYU kicker Republican, but the rest pretty much lumps 80% of left leaning Utah voters into one district, pretty much ensuring republican wins everywhere else.

And Matheson, although a Dem, is pretty conservative in his voting record. I really don't mind the guy. One vote of his really pissed me off, however. Voting for Pelosi as Speaker. If it wasn't for that, I may have actually voted for him...
The 2000 gerrymander was an attempt to boot Matheson, not limit the damage. I realize you were living outside of Utah at the time so I will make no future I-listened-on-the-radio references.

How in the world does it try to beat him. Take all the highly non-LDS parts of SL County and lump into one district. Throw in portions of Utah County that were uninhabited in 2000 - but are quite populated and very right leaning now - and that's a plan to BEAT him?

Why not put the avenues to the University area in with everything north of Salt Lake, the East Bench down to Sandy with the rest of Salt Lake County, and the Sandy Bench and Draper with everything in the Southern part of the state. Problem solved, Matheson's support is carved-up and cast into three otherwise very Republican districts. And he is out.

I just can't look at his District Map and see how that was in any way shape or fashion an attempt to remove him...

They included St. George in his district, then one of the fastest growing areas in the state and very conservative. It used to be in the 1st district.

We have a few retired Californians in my stake. They worked for the state government for over 30 years, retired, and are now drawing their pension checks as they reside in Texas. They decided that a six-figure annual pension salary can go a longer way in Texas than it can in California so they upped and moved. Gotta love California tax payer dollars going to support the Texas economy.

Why is the House capped at 435? We're probably more that twice the population we were 100 years ago with the same number of congressmen. If it's truly "the people's house" lets double the number of house members and make them more responsive to their constituents and less under the thumb of their respective party leaders.

Looks like the Dems are just as bad as the GOP at gerrymandering districts. District 13 & 15 make Texas' 2nd district look normal.

LOL at Illinois losing a congressional seat which precipitated the redistricting.
