  • Reid finally gets something right...

For the first time in the last two years, Reid does the right thing and pulls the omnibus waste of money.

Now if he'll do the same to the Dream Act and START, he'll be that much closer to pulling his head out of his ass. Unfortunately, I don't see that happening.

It's hard to underestimate what a victory this is for the tea party, and Mitch McConnell in particular. There was a real risk of some bitter Republicans defecting, and for him to hold his caucus together is impressive.

And then Obama signs the Bush tax cuts back into law for another 2 years. Heh.

And Gitmo is still open. Heh. Heh.

What the hell are you talking about? I've got plenty of valid responses, but none of them are worth wasting on a dirtbag like Tex.

He didn't pull it, he lost. He has limited time it was obvious that McConnel had held the Republicans togther.

When the dust settles the best politicians of the 111th Congress will be Nancy Pelosi and Mitch McConnel. Those two both did a very admirable job in their positions. While I clearly don't agree much with Nancy Pelosi's ideology, she has been one ballsy leader. The cap and trade vote was an enormous miscalculation on her part and IMO cost the Democrats the house majority without any benefit to their ideological goals, but I am still impressed she could get the votes that she did.

McConnel's job was easier by far as getting politicians to say no, especially as the popularity for the President waned, isn't near the task, but he really held them together on this omnibus when the Democrats were tempting many of them with the smell of cracklin' bacon. This is a clear victory for the Repulicans, but whether or not it will end up being any different for the American people is something we will have to wait and see.

For someone who is constantly preaching fairness, acceptance, tolerance and unconditional love, you sure are quick to ignore all of those approaches when you see fit. I like you, Tim, and while you and I have had our differences in the past, I consider those well behind us. So it's not as a rebuke that I post this but more as a WTF? I'm sure you and Tex have gone head to head in the past, and maybe he has even made it personal. But I don't think anything i've ever seen him post on CUF is meritorious of your response. Just my two cents.

I agree with you. Pelosi, much as I detest her, has proven to be a formidable force in securing votes on controversial legislation--more effective probably than any House leader we've seen in a while, including Tom Delay. Harry Reid, on the contrary, may be the worst Senate leader of any in a generation. How could he bring this thing to the floor without having the votes in advance? Especially after what happened with the DADT-laden defense bill.

McConnell I've been very lukewarm on, but he deserves a lot of credit for this one. Not only did this Omnibus bill include $1B to jumpstart Obamacare, but it provided government funding through next October, effectively cutting off any chance a Republican House might have to curtail spending. It was an incredible act of hubris.

The funnest irony of all: I'm told yesterday was the 237th anniversary of the Boston Tea Party. Fitting.

It's one thing to be fair and tolerant of someone who's doing their best to fit in and be part of a community. I will do anything in my power to accept people when they're genuine. I like the variety of experiences that all community-loving people bring.

It's entirely different to be fair and tolerant of someone who's spent years being a dick to you and everyone you know in a community, has no desire to be friendly, is a troll, etc.

I'm surprised you don't see the difference between advocating for fairness for those who deserve it and have even ASKED to be treated fairly vs. not being fair with people who go out of their way to be a burden for a decade. The moment he starts acting like he wants to be part of the community instead of trolling it and being a general dickhead, I'll be at the head of the line welcoming him. Are you suggesting that you've seen him exhibit that kind of behavior?

Regardless, the fact that you haven't seen Tex say anything on CUF worthy of my response, coupled with your awareness of my desire to be fair, should suggest to you that perhaps I'm using more information than just what I know from CUF. Since I tend to favor fairness and I'm not being fair with him, shouldn't that suggest to you that I know something you don't know? Why is your response, then, "WTF?" and not "Tim must be on to something here, because he's generally pretty fair."

And if what someone says on CUF matters, what's your excuse for the unfairness you've shown in regard to things that others have done outside of CUF?

Ha. I was thinking the same to you.

I suspected there was some history, which is why I mentioned it. That said, you and I had a history, so I was under the impression that you were open to fresh starts on CUF.

I genuinely am for fresh starts, and I'd take one immediately with Tex if he wanted one. The way he re-entered the board this week, though, suggests that he doesn't care about fresh starts here.
