  • Turns out that evolution denial and climate change denial are highly correlated. I guess Jesus will come soon and cause some real "global warming".

Wow... The LDS/Mormons are very much in the anti-science camp on these subjects. As much or more than the SoB's (Southern Orthodox Baptists).

          • So, the polar caps aren't melting from global warming? I'm breathing a sigh of relief for the polar bears.

              Very funny article.

To be sure, receding polar ice caps are an expected result of the modest global warming we can expect in the years ahead. In and of themselves, receding polar ice caps have little if any negative impact on human health and welfare, and likely a positive benefit by opening up previously ice-entombed land to human, animal, and plant life. Nevertheless, polar ice cap extent will likely be a measuring stick for how much the planet is or is not warming.
Same guy wrote this article a couple of months ago saying that a cold winter disproved global warming.

I could never be one of them, they have more rules than we do.

He is a very likeable person, very likeable. I predict if he lives another 20 years the Catholics will have divorce OK, abortion OK, gay marriage OK, women in the Priesthood and Priest's able to marry. Also Notre Dame will no longer have the honor code.

So, just out of curiosity. Which of the current 12 apostles would need to outlive the rest and become president in order for the LDS church to make a similar transition? (I'm particularly interested in the abolishing of the honor code at BYU.)

I have no opinion on him. I am bemused by how easily the public is duped by statements falsely attributed to him. I remember one quote attributed to him that was clearly new age philosophy which was debunked by a snopes search.

He is Argentinian and appears to be a fan of liberation theology which the previous pope debunked.
To be likeable must one speak in platitudes and PC language? His PR campaign is superb. The LDs church could use some pointers.
"Guitar groups are on their way out, Mr Epstein."

Upon rejecting the Beatles, Dick Rowe told Brian Epstein of the January 1, 1962 audition for Decca, which signed Brian Poole and the Tremeloes instead.

In all seriousness I doubt someone with the Pope's background could ever rise to the level of Apostle in the church.

Everything is provided for a Priest who moves on up the ladder to Pope. Their total world and perspective is that of serving or is set up to be. If one also comes from a socialistic political background, only the teachings of the church would give them a conservative slant on things. I am surprised a Pope would have any concept of what it takes to run a business and produce jobs.

Maybe a seminary teacher rising up through the ranks could become the Apostle equivalent.

Yes, I have embellished a bit to make a point.

He's a Jesuit. He very much fits the stereotype from everything I've read about him. That's a good thing, IMO.

He's hardly a man of shallow platitudes.
At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

The role and duties of priests varies significantly. Some end up with substantial business acumen but many do not.
