Since it's polished smooth, it's slipprier than snail snot. It's supposed to cool off quickly on Tuesday night, just in time to fall asleep after Santa comes with the fireplace going watching A Christmas Story on TNT.
This is my least favorite weather. Not hot enough to turn on the AC, especially in the middle of December when it is going to get down to 25 degrees in two days, but muggy as all get out, and the middle of the night is about 2 degrees cooler that the middle of the day. I don't sleep as well, the house feels like a swamp, I get out of the shower and my towel is still dry from the morning before. I'd rather it be 30 degrees or 90 degrees, rather than this.

Wuap, you should read up on attic fans. They were the rage once upon a time, but today most people advise you to disconnect it if you have one.

It was like a tropical storm here. Super warm, big black cell and torrential downpour with wind. Crazy weather today.

      • Mostly sunny and 44* today. Could have gone golfing if I wasn't such a mormon.

When I moved in, I had mine checked out for safety. Mine has a temperature govern that automatically kicks it off if the temp rises above a certain amount as a fire safety measure. As for energy savings, mine is oversized and will slam doors shut if you don't prop them open. It's like a hurricane fan when you open the kitchen window. I love it. Is there something else I don't know about?

Sounds like you have a whole house fan then. I was referring to powered attic fans that can cause your central AC to work harder than it should only to cool your attic wasting lots of energy and money.

            • Most people in the south either run their fans or their AC but not both. wuap is talking about a whole house fan like this:

I have one at my house but have never used it since I have started the renovation.

              • Cool. I have only ever heard them called attic fans, so now I know what to call them. It seems like a fan that runs just in the attic with the AC would create a pressure problem and probably suck cold/hot air through all the little cracks and crevices. I think these things would be a hit in Latin America. Energy is expensive, so AC is not an option, but people are already used to the air. At night, if you got one of these things going, it'd make it much better in houses that normally have stagnant air all night.

I have been told that if you crack the top half of your windows open and start that bad boy that it makes a huge difference. I am thinking about wiring mine back up for the spring to see if we like it or not.

You guys should try central air.

Central air is not the in thing in the trailer parks.

                      • We have a whole house fan and totally love that thing. Through most of the summer and fall once the outside temps drop below about 85 degrees we turn it on for 15-20 minutes and it will drop the inside temp 2-3 degrees. More importantly,it will replace the crazy hot air up in the attic in about 10 mins. Way more efficient than central air.

The house I grew up in ONLY had a gigantic window unit. It was a vacation house that my dad and my grandpa built together. My father loved the place, so he bought it from my grandpa. My mom sold it last month and the guy has already gutted it, replumbed and rewired it, and installed HVAC. I'd almost give him $100 to see the place now. It could've been a gorgeous house if my dad had known what in the hell he was doing.

The previous owners of my house added a bathroom/bedroom wing in the late 1960's, and it has a window unit AC. I love to close the door in the summertime, set it on high, and let the temp get down into the low 60's. AHHHHHHHH.

                            Major Blizzard Visible from Space

The winter storm that lashed the Midwest and Northeast over the last couple of days and has left a blanket of snow in its wake also brought with it sub-zero, bone-chilling winds that are keeping the snow fresh and frozen. The storm's huge expanse across nearly two-thirds of the country was clearly visible in satellite imagery.

The blizzard — which produced white-out conditions with gusts of winds reaching greater than 39 mph (63 km/h) in some regions — brewed overnight as two weather systems, one bringing cold air from Canada and the other moist air from the Gulf of Mexico, collided over the eastern portions of the country yesterday.
