I don't think I could last very long in those conditions. A few hours maybe, perhaps a couple of days, but months? Quite touchingly, the miners sang the Chilean national anthem when contact was established.

They don't have to stay in the small room 100% of the time, do they? I'm assuming the blockage isn't right outside the refuge room, so they can put a bathroom a bit apart, and get a few feet away if needed? I haven't been following this closely, so I may be completely off base here.

I am so claustrophobic that the thought of being stuck down there makes be sick but of course being so claustrophobic I would never be down there in the first place.
